If anyone has an innovative idea as to where to install an Intercooler on a 70 Series, I would appreciate a photo. I have "zero" interest in cutting the hood.
Thanks......

Clear as MUD....

This schematic is for a 6 cyl in an 80, but pretty typical for a front-mount. As noted in my thread on the 73, intercooler installation was one of the issues that led me to go gas vs. diesel.

Hello Charles,

Clint79 did a neat intercooler install in his 79. It did not involve cutting the hood. The front clip needed some modifications, though.

You should check his thread.

My two cents.

The above photo is from Clint's Cruiser. :)

front mounts are a tough go unless you move the rad back.
Hence why i went with the cheap top mount (still need to mount that freaking scoop)
That denco unit it only good for really low boost.

You would think with a little engineering, someone would have figured out how to move the radiator back, especially with how deep the shroud is on the 3B and 13B-T in the 70 series.

I agree with She's Mad: Toyota can figure out how to get 2 more cylinders in that space - why can't I figure out an easy way to make the shroud shallower and space the rad back.

Hi guys,

i've seen the intercooler on a colleagues Wrangler JK 2.8 CRD through the front grille and measured the height ... it is a tight fit but it might fit between the headlights.
Unfortunately i was not allowed to remove his grille and do more measurements.

Here is a picture out of a wrangler forum:

and how it looks with the radiator an intercooler finaly installed, like i wanted it you wouldn,t know it was done unless i told you then you can see the alu coloured npr core thru the black grille:beer:

But you need a second car !! because its gonna take much much longer then you can imagine !!!

A/W intercooler in my LJ78 Prado. Same concept can be applied to 13BT, 1HZT.

A few mate's with gq patrols were using intercoolers off the big turbo diesel Mercedes van's. They are large and very thin perfect for not much room behind a grill.

You hang around folks that drive Patrols? Have you no pride? :)
