G'day, long time lurker, new member and ham. Looked through through forums, and didn't find any mention on whether 'tis a good idea to get power for a mobile rig from the 7-way round trailer harness (100 series) for temporary installations. That way I can move the radio from my truck to my brother's or my buddy's, depending on who I'm wheeling with.

Pretty sure it'll handle the amps just fine, just wonder about the voltage drop. My gut says it's not the best idea, just run a dedicated fused line from the battery, but I figure it's worth asking and be told I'm wrong :D

My Kenwood Specs say it pulls 11 Amps during transmit. I use direct hot and ground straight to the Battery in my installations. Can't remember the gauge, but it's probably around 14 and fused at the battery end. Personally that is the only way I would make connections.
