Thanks for posting a few pictures Matt, I took a few, but nothing really great. Lots of scenery shots. We had a great time on this trip, it really was worth the drive. This trail is my wife heather's new favorite trail destination, she says we will be coming back next year for sure. Everything went very smooth, we ended up going north through Deckers, cutting through Sphinx Park to 285, then through Evergreen to I-70 for the remainder of the trip. I was thinking this would be quicker than threading through Breckenridge, but I forgot about how steep I-70 is all the way. The Cherokee would keep pace with traffic while pulling the camper, but it felt like you were really far into the gas pedal, so I just let off and kept around 55-60. Took us 3 1/2 hours to get there, and I honestly enjoyed every minute of it.
The trails were awesome. Everything was wet and surrounded by water. There are rivers everwhere. I swear you can hear water flowing everywhere you stand, on one trail, you even had to drive up part of the river. We turned around there because it was deeper than normal. ended up getting stuck for a little while, but made it out eventually. The place reminds me of something you would see in a movie set in Ireland, big grassy fields with Huge boulders just laying in them, layered granite walls lining the trails, and lots of green. Got to do plenty of mud wheeling too.
I was pretty happy with the Cherokee's performance, being the smallest in the group, it really held it's own and seemed to have a few heads scratching. Thanks much to Matt for the air, things got even better after the tires went to low pressure. Really a shame some of the trails were snowed in, will have to plan this later in the year next time. might have just been the heavy snow the western slope has had this year though too.
We got rained on pretty good the two nights we were there. Just hung out in the camper/tent until it passed and had a nice fire Saturday night. Should have done more four wheeling Sunday, but I think the wife was ready to head home and clean up. next time for sure, I will be checking out the other trails in the area. I would have left earlier on this trip, but to be truthfull, I never expected this much from this area. Hopefully I will have more time next go around.
