Hey all, I was looking at the isolators between my frame and body and they "aint right". Can someone who is familiar with these give me a rundown on whats supposed to be there? Mainly sizes I guess, but how many are there total?

Next post... "how to fix my squeeks and groans"

Ah cmon, no one? I have no reference for whats supposed to be holding my tub on... They are all the same thickness at least right? Someone? Anyone?

my 74 had rubber mounts that wer all about 1/2" thick. Before I rebuilt the tub and used a set of hockey pucks with a 1/2" hole driled through them.

2 large (52213-90310) (under the running board) and 10 small (52033-30010). Couple of thin pads (52241-60010) as well. Several aftermarket kits available out there, too.

Part numbers are toyota from the 1967 FJ40 parts catalog. Some may not be available or have upgraded numbers.

Daystar and Energy Suspension both make urethane body mount kits for the FJ40.

I also used hockey pucks when I installed the aluminum tub. $12 for a set of twelve pucks and $10 for long stainless bolts. I was a bit worried when I did it that maybe they weren't strong enough but its been 10 years and they're still perfect.

Thanks all, ok no running boards so hockey pucks it is then. Thanks for the diagram Dave, the fact that I´m short quite a few insulators I would just GUESS, is causing some of my sqeeking and groaning. Damn I hate that kind of thing, a truck should only speak when spoken to, haha.

mark...

Mark, I have a pair of the large ones for the bracket that the running boards attach to. They are about an inch and a quarter thick. On my '64 pickup the rest are hockey pucks, which are, well, the thickness of hockey pucks. An inch. :D

The mount under the A pillar, or cowl to frame mount is thicker, and not the same as the rest of the body mounts.

Poser is right... I have a single puck on all the tub mounts and two pucks stacked on top of each other under the cowell. By some convenient coincidence its even this way.

That's the one marked 001 on the figure above, on the "lookout" bracket.

They're right, the running board doesn't sit directly on the thick body mount, but is attached to the bracket the thick mount is attached to.

The step shim for the running board is 52213-90310, and is a skinny thing, 003 in the SOR figure above.

im all pucked up

Ok, so then I can use something one inch tall on all but "001", which are two inches. But those two "001" are, or are not the running board isolators? Cuz likaye said, I gots no running boards today. Though I rather like the idea of hockey pucks, but I will be having someone make my isolators. There are people here (usually covered in black rubber dust) that cut up old heavy equipment tires and grind, sand and drill up your rubber shyte. Old heavy equipment tire lugs are quite durable, but maybe not as durable as hockey pucks? :hmm: Hey I must be doing something wrong, my ebay feedback is a higher than my mud posts!

The 001s are the 2 inch think ones and support your cab. Skinny guys go under the running boards.

Did I miss something? I thought you said in post 4 that "2 large (52213-90310) (under the running board)" but here you wrote that the thin ones go there...

The reason I ask is because I was lucky enough to find 2 original short running boards for my '64, and I would like to install them 'properly'. I say properly because I will eventually lift the tub off for the final body work, and change all the mounts...so how many pucks i.e. 1, 2, 1/2 of one, do I place under the running boards?

Also, this is intended as a stock build, but the idea of "soft ride" sounds nice...can I cheat and place soft rides to look OEM?

I've seen the puck solution before, but you guys have pictures to show your work?

Thanks

Yes, Poser corrected me, and gerhar confirmed, and I acknowledged them.

There is that lookout arm that sticks out of the side of the frame underneath the forward part of the cab. Then, there is an extension bracket that attaches to that: essentially makes it longer, that supports the running board.

The thickest body mount goes on the main part of the support arm.

The thinest mount goes on the extension, underneath the running board.

The confusing part is I can't find a figure that shows both mounts and both the support arm and the extension, the parts book pictures only show part of the story at any one time...so I made this:

yellow arrow points to the main support/lookout/arm and approximate position of the thick body mount.

red arrow points to the extension for the running board and the approximate position of the skinny mount/shim.

sorry for the confusion

Thanks...that actually helps a lot :)

So if the thick one is 2" or two pucks, then how thin is the thin one?

You have short boards on your '64? Anyway I can get a picture from the underside?

Thanks again

I'll try to get under there and take a picture for you later.

The 64 LPB has long boards. Here's the picture from the passenger side. You can see the running board shim is about 1/4 inch thick (what's left of it).

I plan to use the sawzall trick myself.
