VEHICLE IS SOLD.

Selling a 1964 FJ40.

HISTORY:
Purchased this FJ40 in 1995. It has been garaged since I purchased it.
I did a complete frame off rebuild on this vehicle which was completed in 1997. This FJ40 was built for my wife and she used it mainly for 4WD trips from 1997 to about 2004 but over the last 6 years it has gotten very little use. We have too many vehicles including another FJ40 and we are building a FJ45 so this 40 is just going to continue to get used very little by us so, we have decided to sell it.

Price: SOLD
Location: Yuba City, CA (about 40 miles north of Sacramento)
Contact: Please send PM or email through this forum for initial contact if interested. If you are serious I will provide phone or other contact info.

Heh, sounds like a good rig.

How do you tow this rig behind another vehicle? Transmission and transfer case in neutral? Will that do any damage to the drivetrain?

Thanks.........

I am new to this so my PM back to may not have gone through.

I have a trailer to transport but at times I may want to flat tow behind my camper. Can this rig be flat towed? I am asking so I know how. Some transmissions do not like to be towed as they do not get enough lubrication, etc...

Got your PM, you did it right. ;)

I've never flat towed so I never looked into this. The transmission is an automatic TH350 and I woud be concerned that without the engine driving the transmission's pump, there may not be enough lubrication to internal components if the output shaft is being spun at high speeds.

If the transfer case is placed in neutral to prevent damage to the TH350, then the transfercase may not get enough lubricant since the gears would not be turning, just the mainshaft. Again, this might not be good for the transfercase. You may want to check around to see what others do, I'm sure others here on Mud have flat towed.

For me, if I ever had to flat tow, I would just remove the rear driveline.

Others may have more knowledge on this transmission and transfercase for flat towing but for me, I would remove the rear driveline to be safe.

Bump for a great seller.....

I purchased the last 40 Mike was selling, and couldn't be happier with it!!! He does top notch work..

Several friends have driven mine, and they couldn't believe how great it drives on the road.. not to mention the wheeling...

Cheers, Good luck with the sale Mike!

I've had a couple requests for a compression test so I did one last night. It was run with throttle plate fully open and cylinders dry (no oil added). Here are the results:
1 - 185
3 - 190
5 - 190
7 - 190

2 - 190
4 - 190
6 - 185
8 - 185

I also took a few pictures of the spark plugs. Plugs have been in this engine for a couple years.

First picture is of plugs from cyls 1, 3, 5, 7 in order left to right.

Second picture is of plugs from 2, 4, 6, 8 but these would be in order from right to left.

Last picture is a closeup of a single plug. To me, they all looked just like this, brownish tan color.

Reduced to $11,500.

Still includes your choice of 35" BFG MT (shown) or 37" MTR
Includes soft top and full soft doors
Includes hard half doors shown
Includes front and rear spare drivelines. These are brand new, about $500 worth of drivelines.

I've recently discovered a couple things are not working:
-speedometer (new speedometer cable included. This may or may not fix the speedometer.)
-cb radio (problem is that it will not change channels)
