My ignition cylinder works but the housing it sits in is jacked. It won’t start unless I hold pressure on the backside. It’s like the housing just doesn’t keep it tight enough. Ever come across that before?

remove the 1 screw in above pic, there is a flat rod that sticks thru between the ignition cylinder and the electric part, check it and it's function
it may also be the ignition switch itself along with said above connection.

Are talking about this part of the cylinder ?

no I'm not, that piece doesn't rotate when you turn the key
remove the screw and remove the black piece with all the wires, it will make sense when removed
the ignition switch does not directly engage the black piece with the wires, there is an intermediate shaft between the 2
