Beautiful Pig!! I wouldn't wheel it either.
How about this for a brilliant, logical idea.........
Leave your unmolested FJ55 as is.....unmolested. Buy a great rig that is ready to go to the Badlands and knows it's way around there pretty well already. Or trade me your Montero for this rig. If you meet up with these guys, ask them about my rig, they know it real well. See my link below.
What year and miles on the Montero?

Sales hat off.

That would be cool. I may be able to spare some time to run down- when would be the best time?

Sometime mid afternoon would be fine I believe. Jimmy, Clint, myself and possibly Carl should be there working on various projects. If you can come, call me to confirm and I can give you directions.

That is a real beautiful cruiser... I have to be honest, I love it!
Is it reliable? you've got a lot of iron on it, and I bet your receipts total up to more than you could sell it for (same with my FJ55)

I bumped it for you :)

My Montero is nowhere as valuable though. It's a '95, looks decent, reliable, runs perfect, etc, but it's no Toyota. It's got a tiny bit of rust, probably less than an average truck of that age. My wife would kill me if I traded it for something less reliable, hehe. We drive it to North Carolina. I believe it has 120k miles without going out and checking. It had a partial engine rebuild a few years back to stop the trademark smoke cloud that those trucks get. It's got good rubber.

I don't know if you read this post below, but this is my quote from that thread:

"If anbody is contemplating building a dual purpose rig....comfortable on the road and very capable on the trails, save yourself thousandsof $$ (literally) and buy this one (or trade) which is ready to go.
When I total my receipts (if you want to see copies, lemme know) is when I have second thought's on selling this, then I remind myself that it will not be used so let it go to someone who is going to properly utilize it!!
Even with out the paint job, I have reciepts for over $14K and that is me doing all the work, not paying anybody. Like I said, that DOES NOT include the paint."

I can document about every dollar spent on it....as a total, including paint, it is north of double what I am asking....i will send you a PM.

Hey-
I can't come tomorrow. I wanted to, but I have to be there for some friends of mine who are roped into going to a little kid's birthday party. I can't abandon friends to a herd of screaming kids tomorrow and live with myself.

Man I hate those parties.

Ian, What is the history on that beauty? Did you buy rough and rebuild it? Paint looks brand new.
How long you had it?

Yeah I had a Maaco job done on it last summer- they actually did a good job if you can overlook the little overspray spots and masking inconsistencies. My goal for this truck was to be a nice DD, not a show truck. I had a great body to start with.

I bought if off a guy on the far west side of town. Hey had two- one all fixed up. My truck was shipped in by him from Arizona, where it was a farm truck for years in a small town. Because of this, it had little rust, just the usual lower fenders and holes in the rockers. I went all the way around it with bondo then took it to maaco. The interior was shot from years in searing heat. I had a guy on the north side do the headliner and seats, bought a carpet kit and dash cap from SOR, and that's about it.

The odometer says 53k. No one knows if that's 153K or 253K!
The motor runs well- loses a lot of oil pressure on the highway though... obviously a very well-used 2F engine. I need to replace the read brake cylinders too.

It's got the 4-speed trans. It's a low-geared truck. I can be going 35 on local roads comfortable in the 4th gear... hitting the highways is just a matter of revving it a whole lot! I have had it up to 75 but 55 or 60 is it's "comfortable" top speed.

I crawled under it yesterday to look at the springs. They are pretty much horizontal. What I want to do to this truck is to replace the springs and put 33" on it... I bet that alone would improve the ride and make it look a bit more like a LandCruiser.

It doesn't have the original rims... but everytime I see them for sale somewhere the cost just casuses me to say "well, I can wait on that" :)

I replaced all of the weatherstripping... that was expensive. Got lucky on some of the harder-to-find parts... some things just are impossible to get. I try not to drive it in the rain, but if I do, water comes in, I imagine the hidden rust growing in the rockers and inside the doors...

There should be a little box on the passenger side fire wall in the engine bay that the speedo cable runs into. If you open that box there's a counter in there. Somewhere on here there's an equation that you can use to calculate the actual mileage, as long as the speedo cable has been attached and in working order for the life of the vehicle.

Sweet 55....I say give it some mods & wheel it... That rig would love you for it....enjoy it while it's yours the way it was meant to be enjoyed....D*** the torpedos, full speed ahead.

Gotta like that attitude!!

I had to check- who'se the guy driving the brown FJ60 or FJ62 across the White River bridge on 96th St. near Allisonville Rd?

I've seen it there twice now, as recently as last weekend. I think I spied a snorkel!

I drive a stock blue and white FJ55, the only one on the Northside...

I tried to be incognito....damn snorkel gave me away :o
