I got this tank a while back. Today I cleaned it up, pulled the pump and checked the float sending unit.
It seems to be in really good condition.
Anyone interested in copying?? Its sitting on the floor. I've taken basic measurements but not with
precision. It's got some little bits for mounting. Tomorrow I'll climb under and double check the bracket
locations. It came off a 62 but I think the tanks are pretty much the same.

I took the fuel pump apart.

I need to make sure I use the right pick up screen. I got this one from a guy down south, but maybe someone here
can help. I think there is a difference between diesel and gasoline pick up screens. The one that came out is from a
gasser, but it's going into a diesel.

So what I'm planning is add 4" solid fuel pipe, and then go straight into the pick up. I don't see an issue.
The rubber foot is new, and I pulled it from the gasser screen. You can see it on the bottom photo.

Here are pics of the internals. The fuel pick up area is clean and in great shape. The PO dropped a magnet
down there so it was covered in flakes of crap, but I expect it's pretty normal. The braze job on the pick up is
kind of scary but I figure, not broke, don't fix it.

If it's supposed to be a bolt-in those bolt hole centres would be good measurements to have for anyone wishing to replicate it.

Got the fuel pick up figured out. It will work well. I just have to bolt the p-clip to
the stand up. The vice grips are holding it on position. I got a bit of advice to make the return line a bit longer so it discharges away from the pick up screen and sometimes the returning fuel can have bubbles and don't want that introduced back into the pick up. Makes sense so I'll make it about 3-4" longer
The screen is out of a BJ74 tank,

So any of you 40 series guys a bit of info. I've salvaged a BJ74 and am doing a restoration
on my '73 FJ40. It will have a 13BT and rear fuel tank.
I did a quick look yesterday with the BJ74 tank and with VERY little modification and grinding
it will fit right up in the back frame of the FJ40. So it should be a nice 85 litre upgrade of course
with all the fittings and sending unit working Toyota stuff.
In the spring should I get the frame into the shop and on axles I'll mock it up.

So anyone wanting to replace under seat tank or just add a lot of range this is a working
option. I hope it helps someone. Don't ask for my tank please.

Do you have any plans for the steering relay rod that connects the power steering box to the cross bar? Length (+/-)?

I've been accumulating parts to do a Scout II steering conversion and haven't sorted out the linkage yet... a 70 series relay rod might do the job.

If you are talking about my FJ40 restoration I will be using '76 disc front end and a 60 series PS box. I would think the stock
70 series would be really close. Do you want the measurement of length of the steering relay rod on my BJ74? I have both
a LH and RH drive trucks here. I'm taking off tomorrow for work, so can't measure it right away.

Yes the length of a BJ74 relay rod. It sounds like you've got plans for your's.

However, if it were the right length it could be a more economical option than a custom rod.
Are 70 series TREs beafier than 40 series?

Other than that I was hoping to mix and match the Rods and TREs that I've got to figure out an option that'd work.

I think they are interchangeable. Don't forget, axle dimensions are same from 40's and 70's
Same width, so I expect no difference. No idea about strength.
