Good evening! Per an earlier thread, I acquired a 2002 LC w/ 80k miles about a week ago, and I just figured out yesterday (yes, just yesterday) that my 6-disc cd changer located in the center console is not ejecting (my LC has nav :frown: - never been a fan of it...)

If you're familiar with this on the LC, there is a lid that opens with the press of the eject button, and that lid WILL open; however, the cartridge/magazine does not eject. Heck, I can't even hear any noise as evidence it is attempting to eject. So...any idea what could be wrong, or where to look first?

I checked with my local Toyota dealership, and they advised that $45 would be their diagnostic fee, and they would apply that to the repair/replacement cost if I chose to have them work on it; however, I would certainly like to do this on my own if at all possible. Any help is much appreciated. Thanks, Gents!

Same experience here. I took delivery of my '05 ES330 on 10/25, it also has the changer in the center console under the armrest. I loaded it up with CDs to give it a try, and the first time I tried to eject the cassette, that was it, no more changer. It's dead.

Honestly, I don't care. CDs are a nuisance. iPods are the way to go. I'm pulling my changer out and tossing it, I bought the plastic part on eBay for my console so I can get all that storage back. Then I'm gonna get a DICE adapter so I can connect my iPod directly to the stereo.

I had a changer in my last car, I don't think I used it for almost 5 years.

Thanks for the reply...I dont care about using the changer either for music cds; however, my nav system won't function w/o the nav disc...Well, I can't insert the nav disc bc the 6-disk cartridge won't eject :bang:

I love my Crusier so far although I want everything working properly...

My cd player had a fair amount of coins in it from small children inserting them into the slot. While mine was in the dash. It's perhaps worth a look. I removed mine from the dash and shook out the coins. Reinstalled and worked without issue. Did it twice that I can remember.

I think the drive for the Nav disc is under the passenger seat. I remember reading it somewhere here on Mud. So you should be good in that regard.

^^ Agreed. The two drives are separate. I have an '02 with nav and my changer skips so frequently that I took all of the CDs out of it. I too am looking at an IPOD adaptor... oh, and an IPOD too.

Thanks, as always for all of the input. I inserted the disc into the drive under the passenger seat, and well nothing happened so according to "search" that is a bad thing. I'm still getting the message on the nav that states something like "no disc detected"...From what I have read from searching on the forum here it sounds like the drive is basically dead w/o a way to revive it

So...I haven't quite figured out yet what to do with both my nav not functioning (please note all controls such as radio, heat, air, etc continue to work just fine) and my disc changer not wanting to eject. I suppose I could just eliminate both? Any ideas? Again, I will probably perform some more searches here to see what I can come up with.

Even with the "troubles" thus far I'm still happy I bought the Cruiser b/c frankly I didn't buy it for the nav, disc changer, etc...

Guess I 'm just venting a little. Oh well

So... does the Dice Electronics ipod integration gizmo work on the '02? I thought I read somewhere that the unit can plug in place of the external cd changer on the '02 with nav.

Would love to hear about any other devices out there that would allow an ipod to be hooked up to the factory nav system.

Thanks!

while on the subject...Has anyone seen a part number for a console insert w/o a cd changer? I've been looking to pull my changer from my '06, but wasn't quite sure what to put in it's place.

off subject...I 've spoken with consolevault.com about an LC lockable insert, but they need a volunteer center console to play with out of a totaled rig. This would be an ideal replacement for those who scrap the console changer - and want lockable storage.

Do you mean something like this?

Looking at their website for the '02 LC, it looks like the PXDP unit with the PXHTY3 harness will work. I have not tried it, but the price looks really tempting.

Anyone tried this product?

I am having the same problem with my changer in the console and I have an 01. I have not checked yet but do I have nav disc's under my passenger seat as well or did it change in 02? Mine wont eject the cd cassette but shuffles through them, maybe I should take the whole thing out and see if something is in there. I contacted my local yota today and they said 600 for a replacement..... I just cant see spending that kind of money on it but I'm with you I love my cruiser and want everything working properly. Hopefully we can find a good solution to repair/ replacement that wont cost too much.

The 6 disc changer serves as a DVD player in addition to CD player. For me personally, I download music videos and burn them onto DVD's so I can listen and watch while driving (with the video-in-motion mod performed). I realize this may not be everyone's cup of tea, but I use it daily and that would be reason enough for me to fix the thing and keep it. Not to mention the Nav/DVD system was a $3000 option back in 2002.

My disk changer won't load unless I manually lift the lid... Annoying but also doesn't bother me to much, working on removing it and adding a iPod

you people kill me. perhaps literally some day. :bang:

Come on, it is not that bad, I watch movies, text, shift gears, get stuff out of the back seat, direct traffic, smoke, lay down in the seat, and perform on the road low cost tooth extractions all while remaining perfect safe. /sarcasm

You need to control your kids! :D

So how do you remove the 6 pack CD player? I don't see any access to pull it.

I'd like to buy someone's working or broken 6 pack console cd changer to figure out what goes wrong with them, possibly offering a repair to other Mudders in the future. I do have the service/repair manual for them.

Mine is broken and while I don't play CDs it still bugs the crap out of me. How can I get it out to ship to you? You pay shipping and if the removal is easy and doesn't cause other problems it is yours.
