I thought I would share my latest mod in case anyone wants to do something similar. Last fall I bought an 04 4runner and have been wanting to update the wheels to the 5th gen off road wheels. Pic for reference

But I’m not crazy about the center cap. And I want to make my wheels all black. I started looking for centercap options and I found this pic on a forum and I ordered a set of these centercaps. Spoiler alert: they don’t fit. (Sort of) Maybe this pic is AI?

I tried another TRD centercap in hopes it would fit but no luck.
So I started thinking about how to modify the factory center cap to make it flat so I could get a decal made. After some measuring, I realized that the flat centercaps I bought “could” possibly work if I cut the factory cap just right. Measuring I guessed a 3 7/8” hole would allow the flat cap to snap into the factory centercap. I ordered my hole saw and started cutting today.

Now my flat cap will snap into the factory centercap. I also painted my wheels today and here is a shot with centercaps just sitting on wheel. They are not snapped in. I’m not sure I like the aluminum centercap now that my wheels are black so I ordered a set of black with red TRD off of Etsy and will see how those look.

Feel free to give me any feedback! I’m always open to ideas. Is the black too shiny? Too flat? Does the centercap look good? Or out of place? Thanks!
