Hoser, you're thinking of dual spare tires?

This open space where spare used to be is perfect for dual gas/water 70/30tank, very low center of gravity.

Brett, what happened to your muffler, are you driving with earplugs?

Cheers,

Muffler's still there, it's ahead of the rear axle. Just the rear resonator is lopped off. I didn't notice a difference on the 80 when that got cut off, but then again, that truck is so loud now...

Some people do notice a slight difference in noise, but if you're willing to cut off the rear crossmember, this is usually a small concern.

No, no plans to carry dual spares. I already have an aux tank underneath. Just asking the questions I had when I was interested in the 4x4labs bumper. All rear tire carriers are a pain to use. But one could choose to run their spare tire underneath and then throw it on the carrier when they go on trips. It looks like you can leave the spindle and arm in place and still lower the tailgate.

I've got a stupid question guys, on all these swing-out style accesories do the arms lock open or do you hold them open? I'm asking this for all of the 100 bumpers, Lukes, Christo's, ARB's...

Not a stupid question at all. Slee's has a locking/safety pin that keeps the arm open and closed. 4x4 labs uses a strut similiar to your hood to keep it open. Not sure what ARB uses but I think it is also a strut.

Jay,

Lukes design does not use a looking mechanisim persay...as Les mentions above, he uses gas pistons similar to those that hold up your rear hatch...the load rating for these is overkill so even if parked on a slope, youre loaded swingouts will stay open. I havent put mine on yet cause I missed picking up the little studs that the shocks snap onto when I picked up the bumper. I'll post some pics as soon as I get the balance of my hardware.

Christo's has a SS spring loaded pin at the pivot point of the tire carrier/swing out. I just bought another pin assembly from him as with the trailer it's kind of a hassle...so I am going to weld it on the latch side of my Slee rr bumper so that it can be unlatched and unpinned at the same point...then use the locking pin at the pivot to hold it open. If you order a bumper from Christo I would ask him to have it set-up this way if possible from the get go.

I've thought about welding one of the pin holes shut on the my Slee bumper. Right now, it is 5 steps to get into the back of my 100. Release latch, pull safety pin, open carrier, open top hatch, and lastly open bottom hatch. I'm wondering if the safety is necessary. However, it does prevent somebody from breaking into through the rear (and accessing your cargo drawer) as they aren't familiar with the mechanism.

A change of issue.

Do the Luke's flushed 2x2 receiver have two holes on each side for the trailer hooks?

Regards,

Yes, at least the 80 bumper does, and I would assume the 100 does as well as it looks to be basically the same design. The receiver shaft extends behind the rear face of the bumper and is heavily reinforced back there. The two holes for the pin are back there as well.

edit: Sorry Jay, in re-reading your post, it looks like you're actually talking about the eyes for the weight distributing hitch? If so, then the answer is no.

just saw this thread brett. that turned out very sweet. typical luke.....:grinpimp:

Figures, I think being late to the party cost me some options...

More options now than ever: ARB, Dissent Offroad, Slee, Trail Tailor, Victory 4x4, etc.

Late is one thing, but a person born when this thread started can now legally drive the vehicle in the pics :steer::skull:

Can confirm, my son was born when this thread started... :steer:

I built a 4x4labs bumper last summer, decided recently to add Jerry can holder and tire carrier swing outs, and they showed up today. So Luke is still pumping out the goods.
