I love the 4x4labs bumpers. I was going to order one a few years back but no kits were in stock and there was a long wait time for them. I really like their 80 series setup as well and pretty much everything I've seen from them looks awesome. Even if you aren't a experienced welder and got help from a local welder or fabricator you will still save a lot of money. Shipping will be much cheaper too since parts can be packaged more compact. You could do local powder coating but I would consider priming and painting, monstaliner or other similar finish. I primed and painted my sliders so I can bang around on them and touch up when needed. If you have a decent size air compressor I recommend picking a harbor freight hvlp paint gun and go to town on it. I have four paint guns now with different size tips and I've laid down some real nice looking paint jobs on parts and other projects. I think building your own bumper would be pretty fun. Go for it! I see Jonseys also sells these now too so they must've cranked out a bunch of kits recently.

Anyone know if you can add the spindles and swing out arms later if you get the base shell?

If you go their site you can pretty much add any parts and accessories to your liking. So yes you can get the spindle kits first and weld them up while the bumper is being put together. Add swing arms, ladder, tire carrier, etc later. You can also order the bumpers welded and finished if you don't go the build it yourself route.

I'm in the same boat. Looking at the dual kit for $995. I may settle for the $500 kit for now.

Haha how did I know that would happen. All we need is some Stella to put it together.

Yeah, I'm hoping to do this soon.
I've got decent welding skills, but I think I'm going to get a buddy of mine with much more experience to help out on this one. Then probably just paint it like jgray suggested.

You guys should get together, weld one up, and let me know what you think. :D

Dodge Ram vs 4x4Labs rear bumper

A kid that was driving erratically rear ended me on the 19th.

I was going around 25mph and he was probably going 55mph.

Crumpled his truck pretty good

My Gen Y hitch concentrated most of the energy in the hitch tube.

Pushed my tailgate up a little bit but overall the bumper did its job and saved my truck from getting totalled.

I will definitely be ordering another one from Luke and HD

Will probably leave the tailgate alone and order some swingouts for it.

Body shop says the frame is fine :hillbilly:
