4wd oil pan onto 2wd motor? it won't fit!

So I picked up a turbo 22rte out of a 2wd truck, and when I went to put my 4wd oil pan on, I noticed that the thin metal fin inside the oil pan that wraps around the oil pump is different. the 4wd pan won't fit on the motor. it has oil pump clearence issues i guess.

Are 4wd and 2wd oil pumps different? are there varying 4wd 22re oil pans??
do i need a new oil pan or a new oil pump???

I think you are confusing the oil pickup tube for the oil pump. Unlike the 2F that lives in the pan and driven by the distributor, the oil pump in the 22R-series engine is a crescent-type gear pump, it is driven from the front of the crank.

So, all you need to do is also swap the oil pickup tube and screen. You have to do this because the 2WD pan has the sump in the front, but that will interfere with the 4WD suspension. The baffle in the sump is really important, it keeps the pump from sucking air when in extreme angles.

Is it that important to change the oil pan out on the 4 wheel drive's? I've alway's heard this and I had to put a 2 wheel drive motor in my truck 2 year's ago. I was gonna change the pan but i had plenty of clearance and got in a hurry to wheel. I've wheeled the fool out the old truck, rolled several time's, once in a pond 5 ft deep and still going with no oil issues. It can't be luck becuase all i get is BAD

I think if you have too much up travel and an axle that's not been moved forward any it can hit the pan with the front sump....

cool, i didn't realize the oil pick up needed to be changed, i actually didn't even know that was called an oil pick up. that should take care of that. thanks for the help!
