I've got some rust problems in my HJ45 troopy. I want to replace both the front floor pans. I just got off the phone with Iron Pig Off Road and was told that the floor pans for the 40/42 are different than the 45. I thought they were the same?

Should I be able to use floors for the 40 in a 45?

I have a BJ42 but it's currently off at the winter storage place. I can head over there to take measurements and photos to compare but I figured someone around here might know the answer off the top of their head.

I also need to replace the floor pans in my HJ47, and I was wondering the same thing .....

I emailed 4wheelauto about their floor pans, asking whether their 40 floor pans would fit my HJ47. The answer I recieved was very sparse and far from conclusive, but they did say that they should fit.

I don't know though, because my troopy has a distinct lump on the RH floor pan - I think to clear the fuel lines for the water separator. Don't know for sure though. Here's a photo of the lump I'm talking about (in blue box):

This lump is not present on the LH side, and I don't know if the 40s have this, but I would love to know.
In any case, you should be able to cut around this lump, leaving it in place, and welding the new floor around it.

Cheers,

Matt

I'll have a looksee at mine soon, even though my troopy practically has no floorpans left. That said, I can't see why they wouldn't go into place and maybe modify them for the placement of the vacuum tank?

Maybe not, on further inspection the vac tank is further out than that hump in the floor, my '81 troopy and '83 BJ 42 have this hump on the drivers side footwell, even though the vac tank on a bj 42 is on the passenger side. My 1980 HJ 45 does not have said hump on the floor, perhaps it's for clearance around the split transfer case/ gearbox? '81 HJ 47 and '83 BJ 42 floors otherwise look interchangable to me.

dingbatt I did a floor pan on a BJ44 RHD and used a 40s LHD replacement pan it had the same hump as you mentioned.
In theory the pans froma 40 should work on a troopy you will have to manipulate the fit I have yet to find a perfect replacement pan that will just dropin without some tweeking.

I believe the hump is to make room for the transfer linkage. In any way, 40 series floor pans should fit, as long as you get the right year floor pan. So for your 1981 HJ47, use a 08-1980 and up floor pan. With the fuel tank outside.

Here's a LHD US-Spec 1979 FJ-40. It also has that hump.

That is all stock, except the rib that I shortened (it's been primed gray). I would just order a right hand floor pan for a 79+ 40 series. They are looking the same to me.

My 82 FJ45 pickup tub, 1984 FJ40 LX and 1984 HJ47 troopy all have that hump. I am almost certain they are all the same floor pans.

So it looks like 1980+ floor pans, regardless of LHD/RHD configuration all have the same floor pans.... Well, that's good news - certainly broadens my suite of options available :D.

Many thanks for all the replies dudes .....

Though I suppose Rufus is still wondering about his floor pans - I wonder if the same is true - pre 1980 floor pans from 40 / 42 / 45 series cruisers are the same?....

Please do as I am going to do the same- my floor pans have a couple quarter sized holes by the edge of the door.

How do they look? Would you purchase the same pans again?

I'm not totally familiar with the size of U.S currency, but replacing the whole floorpan because of a couple of small holes is going a bit overboard isn't it? You should be able to patch small rust holes like that.
