I'm thinking about adding a 2" receiver type hitch to the HJ45 Troopy. Anyone have photos of their 45s/47s with a rear hitch? I'm just looking for design ideas. I'm particularly interested in the way the hitch is connected to the frame.

In my build thread you can see how I removed the rear most cross member and replaced it with 2x4x1/4" rec tube

This gives me a good distribution of the pulling forces into the main frame rails and keeps the hitch up high - mine is obviously a 45 LPB but the same should apply for you

That gives me some good ideas. Although I don't want to go through the effort of swapping that rear frame member on the 45 I think I'll do something like that on the 47 if/when I get around to working on it.

^^^That type of towbar is quite common here on troopies, both of mine have them, made by Hayman Reese here in Australia. There should be a couple of pics of mine in Crusty BJ 60's thread on his soft top project.

Mine is like that as well. I'll try to get some frame mount pics and post them So you can see how the Reese bolts on there.

Started working on something last night out in the driveway. No snow, but 21 degrees F. Hope to finish it today.

Who are you kidding? 21 degrees F is perfect welding weather. It'll keep you motivated to keep going just to stay warm! :hillbilly:

Looks good!
