Well I had to travel down to Victoria on Sunday to watch my son play a lacrosse game, the weather was nice traffic was moderately heavy due to the nice weather.
The 44 short of an exhaust leak held its own on the highway down from North Qualicum when I came upon the sign saying the Malahat sitting at the traffic light and staring straight ahead at the monster uphill climb my butt cheeks puckered wondering if the 44 would make the climb, after reading threads from all you Islanders whining about the dreaded Malahat i had my doubts.
When the light went green I planted that skinny pedal so hard to the floor boards I left a indent in the floor pan and away we went got her up to 90 kmh and climbing hard with the top of the first climb a 100 yards away the speed started scrubbing off but I stayed hard on that pedal 85,70,65,63 and she stayed hard and steady hit the top and and we were off and running back up to 90 and leaving traffic in my smoke ( no smoke she hardly smokes unless I drop down a gear or two.
Came upon the next steep climb cruising comfortably at 90 then 80,70,65,then steady at 63 the trafiic in front of me wasn't going any faster so no problem keeping up with the pack , before I knew it it was all over and we entered Victoria don't know what you guys are concerned about with the Malahat its a mole hill compared to the Coqahalla(sp)
the good thing about the down hill portions is you can hit speeds unheard of in a cruiser, even a cop with a radar gun would laugh if he seen you coming.
