I've been following the other suspension threads, and tried to ask this there. So far there has not been a response to this question. Aware that the 40 springs have an offset pin, this means my axle location will move 1 1/2" forward(front shackle reversal). It looks like I'll have an interferrance problem w/ the drag link and relay rod. Possible to use left tie rod end from right hand drive rig on the right end of my rig and put the relay rod end to the inside of the drag link. Mechanically speaking, I'm sure it can be done. My question is should it be done. The 40 springs seem to be readily available and affordable. Other than the tie rod end issue, and possible tire rubbing issues, are there any other aspects that you guys can think of that I haven't already addressed. It seem like the extra 1 1/2" of wheelbase will be advantageous as a more aggressive take-off angle. Please set me straight.

Throw me a bone!!! Your mom is not here; it don't have to be nice for you to say it. Any thoughts on this hairbrained idea would be welcome. Tell me where it's stupid, or give me reason to try it. P.S. If anyones got a set of 2.5" fourty front springs they're not using right now, let me know.

Howdy! After doing a SOA many years ago, my stock springs were getting really saggy, probably because I tend to carry way too much weight on board. Anyway, I replaced them with the SOR HD springs. Overall, I'm pretty happy with them, but with 35's, I can still rub on the trailing edge of the front fenders when a really stuff the suspension on turns. Moving the front axle forward would be a nice thing to do, at least for me. Shock tower alignment would be about the biggest issue I would have to deal with. Depending on lift, you might have to deal with extending your front driveshaft. I think the weight on the front axle would be very similar between a 40 and 55 series, so the springs should be able to carry it OK. The rear would be a different story. Are the shackle pins and bushings the same size? John

Most people go the other way on replacing the springs on their 40's. This is primarily because the 55 rear springs are longer. There for giving you more travel and better motion. I personally would not go to 40 springs in my 55. In fact i would put heavier springs in. There's a reason there is an abundance of 40 springs. ;)
