Dash just looks cracked bad to me. Rob just told me OEM dash pads have a little give to them and aftermarket dont'....OEM are also about $600!

My cousin in Little Rock is going to check it before I make the drive. Will get good pics, and he really knows cars...just not 40s.

If it runs well and no major rust shows up underneath it looks to me like what you were looking for.....a driver that needs TLC you can work on as you go...good luck, keep us posted!

Looks like a good find. 305 V8 but otherwise looks rather stock.

When y'all wanna get serious about buying a 40 and want to spend the money on a truck that is not a piece of s*** then give me a call. My buddy Tony wants to sell his 77 and it's ready to roll. $12,000. Very nice rig. Some in the club have seen it and know that it's a legit 40. Rust free, 2F, locker in the rear, winch, metal tech cage, 4" HFS lift, 35's, tuffy console, and nice stereo. Ready to wheel

Jeff, one of my neighbors has been shopping for a 40 that wouldn't require a lot of work. $12K is probably in his price range. If you have pics and details on Tony's truck, send them my way and I'll put them in front of him.

If i had the $12k to spend (which i don't) still don't think i would buy a finished truck...I actually WANT a project...might be a mistake, but gonna jump in anyway.

Ok. Family member inspected the truck today, and the only rust issue is the 4" spot on the rear left fender. He said undercarriage is in great shape. Engine starts and sounds great. Steering is tight. Obviously the dash and windshield need work. Paint job is also not the best. So the basic list on this one will be disc brakes, 4-speed, interior rehab, new windshield and dash, minor body work, then paint. I'm pretty confident I can get it for around $5500.
Is this a good deal?
By comparison, a few 76 or newer trucks like the one below have been popping up lately...they need body work, engine rehab, etc, but can be had for under $5k.

But, the crappy trucks you have found shows me that I should let it sit until I get more time, because I won't easily find one for $4000 again. If you want a project, than worry less about some details. If you want a nice truck, wait until you have $8000 or more.
This one looks like a good option. Otherwise buy shush's truck. It has tons of new parts and brand new BFGs. Although, I don't think he really wants to sell it.

John, after driving your 40, I think all teenagers should drive a 40. There is no way to text and drive in that thing and we all know that speed kills, so there are two risks eliminated.
