Hell, take em off and drive it. See if that helps the ride. You need them but it won't hurt for a test drive.

x2. Your shocks are toast.

I thought you were gonna clean up those springs and paint with slip plate. Doesn't look like that happened. Was there a change in plans?

agreed shocks are needed. never bought slip plate as it ain't cheap and i wasn't sure removing springs from the pack would solve the problem with 15-20 year old sky jacker components. that pic was before work

I don't get this ride issue. My skyjackers ride almost too smooth. Ask Jrob. He drove my rig for a few hours at K2 last year and he was amazed at how it rode. I need to drive your 40 to see what you are talking about. All that you have done should have made that thing ride Ike a caddy. Also if the shocks are worn out then that should help the ride not be so harsh.

you can't compare our usage because we don't really know if mine was abused or how old it is. I have done new bushings, shackles and removed 2 springs per corner.....I have spent about 10 hours on it (no air tools) I agree it should ride better.

What shocks would yall buy with about 4 inches of lift for my truck? I think THAt is the problem.

SHUSH what you don't understand is that you cant just run the shocks that you need on a lifted truck now on your truck. They will bottom out constantly and ruin them.. So get the shocks that you need currently or do it all at once.

Can't cut corners on alot of this stuff.

I will tell you from what I learned alot of shocks limit the springs in the "kits". I ran through 2 sets of OME shocks since they where too short when flexing.

Get the springs you want put them on and go flex the truck at limits (in a ditch or ramp at a warehouse) an get a tape measure and find the shock that fits the measurements.

im trackin JBO I was asking more about brand than literally length of shock. I read a thread where a guy said bilsteins were best for travel with a 4 inch lift but other brands were better for a 2inch lift which made zero sense to me.

No a shock is a shock for a leave sprung land cruiser...

Guys here will tell you different but these are damn near tractors so they dont need high performance shocks.

If you where going 100 mph over the rocks then yes but you are not.

Get the measurements every truck will be different even with the same exact springs on it.

Go to your local Napa and give them the measurements and get a shock for cheap or ebay I get skyjacker seconds (have paint issues) for about $25 per shock. They ride alot better than the OME they replaced and cost a 1/3 less.

I heard cheap........kidding.... im trackin.....thanks

Are you in a big hurry? I have Skyjacker shocks (4" lift) on my 40 that have around 1K highway miles. Nothing wrong with them, but my wife bought me a set of Bilsteins in Oct for my BD, to go with my not yet installed OME springs. I doubt I'll be able to swap suspensions until after Katemcy, but if you want to buy my "like new" shocks I'll save them for you. Hunnert bucks. I'll even tote 'em to Jackson.

BTW, whatever you do, don't waste your money on OME shocks. DoetschTech makes an excellent shock at a reasonable price. On line catalog: Off Road Truck Racing and Automative Suspension Lift and Lowering Kits

Lee that sounds great. Ill pm you. Now get to writing about the open road!

Yeah tell me about it. He must have writer's block.;)

Family issue. My Dad had another stroke. I'm camping in his hospital room. May not get back to writing until he's in the clear. I'll post a notice in my thread when I get a better fix on things.

So sorry about Army. That generation is so incredibly tough and resilient.

Don't worry about more posts. I might just wait till the book comes out. Hang in there, thoughts and prayers for you and your dad.

In our prayers.

Thanks everyone. Army is a tough old guy for sure. When the ER doc asked how he felt, he said:

"The Germans couldn't get me, and the Eye-talians couldn't get me, and neither could the Japs so I'm not gonna worry about a damn stroke." (He's not politically correct)

Typical of him. I'm in awe of that generation.

You and me both! I love his quote!

I hope he gets well soon and I agree with Lenny he is a rare breed and sounds like a bad ass guy.

Yeah that's crazy! Why would someone do that? I know why he said he did it but that is carnage waitin' to happen. Hey Mike, I've got a buddy with a 77 40 ready to roll for $12k if you are interested.
