OK.

Outside edge to outside edge is 16"

But inside to inside where the tire mounts is right at 15", which would make it a 15" wheel.

Thanks for the quick responses guys. Gonna move on these, sandblast and powdercoat black.

Are those the ones for $400? I have these that came on my 40 that are 15 inch. They aren't stock but I'd let you have them for $50.

Thanks Andy, but I want to stay with OEM wheels, even if they aren't the correct year.

These are the same ones, but price won't be $400. I'm comfortable enough now to get them.

Thanks,

That's my old rig that he swapped in a SBC 355(?) and did some other work. He bought it from me in April 2010 for ~$5k. Floors were a little rusty and we had to cut the tranny tunnel cover out since a PO had welded it to the floor on the drivers side for some reason. :bang: You can still see the IH8MUD decal I put under the 4WD emblem. :D

Fuel system is next after wheels and tires...I have the weber carb installed (38mm).

Weber and SOR sell a gas pedal kit for the 40 with the Weber Carb. I'm assuming I need this?

From SOR:
Pedal & Cable Assembly-
Fits 9/73-8/80-Replacement parts for Weber Carbs. Requires drilling to mount pedal and cable.

For the 38 Weber yes it does.

Been running one for 13 years. It came from Bob at TPI4x4.com. Tell him I sent ya

1976 FJ40 Frame-Off Restored - $8,000

Hope it's ok for me to drop this here but figured you guys were viable options for this and the guy (his dad) will give it a free ride through Mississippi on his way home to AL. He goes "several" times a month.

Hope you are all well.

Scott,

My name is JW St. Amant (Marshall St. Amant's nephew). I know Marshall may have mentioned to you that I have a 76 FJ40. Anyway, got really involved in a restoration about 6 years ago and then went active duty military. I have not been back to Baton Rouge since and have not been able to drag my project with me. I am bittersweet about selling it, but I don't see myself getting around to finishing it in the next few years. If you or anyone you know may be interested, please let me know. I have owned two of them and am fairly knowledgeable. The attachment covers the big stuff that I was able to complete. My Dad and I did all of the work with the exception of the engine rebuild (original 2F) which was done by Engine Warehouse in Baton Rouge. Everything but the crank was replaced. Mechanically, it is 95% intact and needs to have the wiring harness and fuel system put back together in order to get it running. The body is back together and ready for finish paint. Anybody with landcruiser knowledge could have this truck going in a few days, and then maybe another few weeks to get the interior and trim the way they want it. I will be in Baton Rouge around Christmas and the week after to show it, or Marshall can show it anytime at his convenience.

Thanks,
JW

Nice project that just needs finishing. One thing I see that I wll never understand. Why, with the limited space at the header collector, would anyone want to run dual exhaust on a 40? Oh well, that's just my .02.

I thought the same thing. At the end of the day, it looks sort of cool, but that seems to me to be outweighed by the problems it can cause...

Anybody know a good way to pressure test / leak test a gas tank?

Was hoping the radiator shops in town would do it, but no dice...
Is the tank in bad enough shape to suspect it might have a leak? I'm not sure who could do fuel tank pressure testing, but out of an abundance of caution, you might want to consider a fuel tank sealer, like POR-15. It's fairly inexpensive (Eastwood also makes a sealer system, but the reviews are not very good....)
