That rack looks like the perfect height. I like the Gamiviti rack, but I think I like the extra low profile rails pointing up on yours better.
Actually... I think you can do better!!!! You need to take that one off and send it my way and you can redo yours.

Got to use the new roof rack this weekend up in Wyoming. Carried a bunch of stuff easily enough and didn't rip off or fall apart on the road so I'm good!

Got to the top of Argentine Pass with my buddy yesterday. What a cool place we live when we can drive from Denver to this spot and back between lunch and dinner, thanks again Thomas! He is running one of the racks we built... he needs to sign up and join mud!

but just so you don't think the 40 isn't getting any love... her is the old girl (far right) on our annual Rising Sun 40's Only trail ride that I had the pleasure of leading again this year. We had 16 rigs on top of the world.

Okay so I need some input. I have a Slee second battery tray and was planning on dropping in a second battery with an isolating dual setup.
I took a guess I could get both batteries in the stock location (dual group 35s) so today I whipped up a custom battery tray. It fits and the batteries just fit. They just start to compress the hard lines above the DS headlight. I like this location as it cuts down on the amount and run of the wire needed to install the isolator.
I got the battery tray painted tonight but hesitated to burn it in. Is there any risk welding it straight to the engine bay? I can't see any reason not too. If I use this mount it frees up all the space in passenger side corner for a compressor and relays.
What would you do?

Here's where it gets tight, everything fits. I do have contact on the foam covers of the hard lines. Nothings got hard contact but they do touch. This is my concern, that and welding it to the engine bay.

I'm still torn between welding in the new battery tray. I am not sure that the terminals I want to use will fit so that might make my decision for me.
In the mean time, I had a camping trip coming up so I cranked on a quick and dirty mount for my OzTent Foxwing awning. I had an old extruded piece of aluminum in my pile and it looked like it would be perfect in this application. So, I decided to cut some of it up and make a mount until I could finish my original plan of a quick insert/release mount. I don't want to have the awning on the rig 100% of the time. Especially in winter.
Here are my "Z" shaped pieces of aluminum, at nearly 1/4" thick they are very robust. Since the front and rear mounting positions would differ I needed to label them to keep them in the correct orientation.
I scribed where the openings were in the mounting plates, I found this is the easiest way to get accurate hole locations for something like this. Then I piloted and drilled the 3/8" holes for the stainless hardware (left over from the rack).
Here is the gist of it, the "Z" profile creates a level mounting surface up high and creates a lower "shelf" simultaneously. I'll bolt the awning brackets to the shelf and the height works out just about perfect!

The mount works great, the awning is tucked in nice and tight to the rack, and whoa-la! A quick and easy mount. However, I really do want to create a quick mount system... I want to be able to pop it on and off for camping, tailgating etc. but I don't want it to be a hassle to get on and off and although this system is really rigid it takes two people to mount it on the current setup.

On welding it a couple of drawbacks I can think of would be corrosion, and future proofing. As you know all the metal is plated before paint and so it will be hard to get factory level corrosion protection especially on the back sides of some of the welds. That might be a bigger concern with conventional wet cells and not a big deal for AGM... but your 100 is just so clean, I don't know man. The other point would be do other D35's also fit well if you want to go to another brand? Height, terminal location, etc. Another IIRC point may be that it's getting harder to find the top mount only Optima and most stock the dual top/side post versions (not sure if I trust my recollection but I prefer top mount but have a combo post D35 yellow Optima in my 100 and I'm blaming availability v $).
If you can shoehorn it all in there it will be great for the wiring simplicity and short runs and keeps the other side of the bay free for other toys.

They likely just put me over the edge, they are likely the only size/brand battery that will fit. I'll need to look at Stinger and Odysee to compare size. Thanks Andy!

@AimCOtaco I can never make the spooky run, I am always traveling with work on that weekend it seems. That said, I am hoping to head up and run Barbour Fork and Argentine this weekend and see the leaves change.
