I have a 79 40. It's been sitting since early 90s it ran off a gas can when I got it home. Pulled the carb had it rebuilt. I decoded the carb wrong some how. Carb is dated jan 75. Mine is a 79 with ALL smog junk still on it. Here's what it's doing now.
Idle circuit is acting like it's not complete runs great down the road.
You have to feather at idle lots of choke.
no vacuum leaks period.
The question is. Is there anything on a 75 carb that wouldn't be happy with 79 smog lines?

Well perhaps it wasn't rebuilt correctly, everyone makes a mistake now and then. Maybe they set it up for sea level where they tested it and you are at 7000'.

I don't understand feather at idle - sounds like the accelerator pump isn't working correctly and you would need to add gas carefully or it would balk - feather?

I don't think those copper ports are factory, but no actual clue.

I think pinhead did vids for tuning those carbs. Make sure your timing is correct, the valve lash adjusted properly, you have fresh gas and filter plus the fuel pump is working correctly.
