Does this combo just lead to some super crappy steering for wheeling? I guess I could add a locker and make it worse. I'm thinking about going to 2.5" BS wheels on my rig, any problems doing this with a 4"SJ setup?

I think wheeling without power steering sucks. BTDT One of the first things I added was minitruck PS to my 40. While it is not as effortless as saginaw I think it works great offroad with a autolocker and 33s. I can't imagine if you had an auto locker without powersteering.
Sure, it can be done, but it isn't pleasant. I did Hells Revenge with 35x12.50s on 10" rims. FORGET THAT. When I was done I felt like I just did the Baja 1000 on a bike with a flat front tire. Talk about arm pump. I wasn't the same for days. First thing I did when I got a chance was a 3 1/2" Saginaw. The single most important mod for a Cruiser is power steering IMHO.

Mine had pretty much the same setup for quite a while. On the road was ok, wheeling sucked. Saginaw is the way to go.
I'm wheelin right now with that setup, except I am running stock BS. I'm not sure how less BS would affect the difficulty of steering.
8" rims are a must, the more aggressive the tire, the easier it will steer on road (less tread contact surface).
I do have strong arms and it is not a problem, there have been some situations I wished I had PS, which is why there is a minitruck box sitting in my garage right now.
