I think he is coming up w/springs -- that's my understanding too.

When I get it back in my underground garage , I'll measure mid hub to bottom flare . I call it 4" I guess because my rig is so light , that it is probably close to that . I may still throw 15mm OME packers up front . I know that so far the front end has risen 2" over the 851's that were up there before . Isn't the 851/860 combo a 2.5" lift ?

As far as a spare , I have been running without one forever ! Even ran across the country a few times . Dumbass , I know . I guess I should order 5 of the Rock crawlers .... and throw a full size spare in the back . Once I do that I'll probably build a plywood shelf over it , like I did in my '93 4Runner . Make the top of it an open 'box' , with 12" sides , and a centre (width-wise) divider for securing groceries etc .

Airlaird , though I will eventually add bumpers and sliders , I plan to design my own perhaps , or buy from a designer/builder whose designs jive with the vision I have for my 80 . I also enjoy it's clean lines so far , and would like to steer clear of ARB ... or anything which screams 'heavyyyyyy' . It's a personal preference thing ... no offence intended to the multitude of others that are going that route .

Alan Podvin's 100 had some nice sliders and bumpers .... and I may try and emulate that sort of design . Going with slightly larger , double tubes with flat steel welded to it to fill in and strengthen some areas . I will also try and incoporate a horizontal top area into my sliders . I seem to see a lot of sliders that , from what I can see , lack a certain (safe) functionality because the top surface is not horizontal ... mine will be flat on top , and also a little wider , so as to keep the debris from flying off the front tire and sandblasting the body ( As seen in the pics above) .

Cheers ,

TY

Ty,
ill try to post a pik of my sliders that I designed with 2x6 Steel they are flat and work great as well!
later :D

Whats all that white stuff?

I have to agree w/ airlaird, if you are going for asthetics only you are there!

Man, I might get the same set up if the ride is really fantastic. I really like the clean look of a lifted rig like yours without the aftermarket bumpers and in a stock form.

Those clear tail light lenses make it looks even more bad ass. Swaaeeeet :flipoff2:

Nope, it will be Slee Off-Road springs with 4" of lift with stiffer rates the 850j's and 863's. Also getting the truck to sit pretty level. The springs are rated for a truck with weight on it. Not a slimmed down, clean zen truck like Ty's :D

PS, Ty, the sliders you want are in production. Called Slee Slidersteps (Thanks Darren for name  ) Will be powdercoater with special non-slip coating close to Line-X and have steps with flat surface. Avail in Feb.

Will try to get spy pictures soon :D

So will the truck sit level at all times? Fully loaded and unloaded? Unlike some others, I don't mind the "stink bug" look -- it really doesn't bother me. What I do like is knowing that when I have the cargo area loaded with several hundred pounds of trail parts, gear, food, etc. for an extended trip that the rig has no sag.

I look forward to seeing these. I have plans on building up the other 80 in the driveway and these sound like what I'd like to get. Are they similar to the steps (i.e. non-tube sliders) you have for the 100?

Close to level with front bumper and winch and rear bumper and tire carrier. Still little rake.

No, they are all one piece. Round tube is flat instead of angle with plate welded on top.

To hell with the 315s, I suggest 24"s.

Matches the gold bling now too. ;p

I hear ya. I gotta work on that.

u could probably care less on what i think but imo the gold emblems and the whited out lights... aren't doing it for me.

everything else looks a ok.

The gold has to go .. looks like s***e with the clean look I am going for now . I still think Christo put it best .. " slimmed down, clean zen truck " . I do however like the clear lenses , and will eventually get clear signals and also perhaps replace my custom signals under the mirrors with clears .

My 80 used to be all about 'form' . Now it has entered a 'form and function' phase . I'm not sure it will ever experience a 'form follows function' mode , because quite frankly form is important to me . I'm starting to strive for a more capable truck , but not going in the cookie cutter direction of the herd , so to speak ... ;)
