We had already reinforced the frame at the steering box's mounting location. The 2 rear mounting bolts (going towards the rear are a perfect fit. The 2 forward ones did not fit.
Clearly, it is not so simple as to re drill 2 holes and done. It was a bi#@h to cut into.
We cut the outside of the frame rail only and removed the spacers. We had to use a torch to be able to get them out. We're getting new ones machined.
All things considered , it's a fairly easy upgrade if if you have the right tools. The difference in size is clear and the Patrol's steering box is definitely worth installing on this rig.

Problems with the welder caused us not to work much yesterday. We decided to work on small things . Rear over fenders were designed. Hopefully the welder gets fixed today so we can get cracking on those.
Iwant to make those out of 3/4 " OD pipe and sheet metal. I considered a smaller diameter tube, but i don't think it woud match the curve of the front fenders or that of the upcoming side steps/ sliders. We'll see all that a bit later but for now, here are some pics of what they'll look like on the truck .

We took some last pictures of the truck prior to doing more work to the doors..... yeah those doors again. But finally we are decently satisfied with them.
I ordered lots and lots of parts for it which should get to us any day now:
Braided fuel hoses, stainless steel tubing for brakes and fuel, cooling system for the black box , supercharger kit..... I can barely wait.
In the meantime, here are a few pics

When all welding is done, Linex will be sprayed inside and under the cab and bed.
I did the same to my fj40 in 2005 , and I must say that it has kept the rust to a minimal.
I forgot that we are also working on building the rock sliders. You'll see pictures of those when we're a bit more advanced with them.

Still debating whether I'll install the roll cage inside the truck or on the outside.... we'll figure it out when the time comes.

We got quite a bit done this passed week. The tail gate is finally hinged. For that, i used old hood hinges i had laying around .as i said before , uniformity is key here to keep the flow of things.
The infamous doors were seperated from their inner parts and block, stopper ,heat, water and elbow grease all got together to make them as smooth as a baby's ass. We then treated the inners rust treatment. I ordered some new latches for them. They were not very expensive , which makes me think , i might have 4 lemons coming this way..... i can only use what i can find. Unfortunately.
We also tackled the sliders/side steps.
As you saw further up, we used 3/16 gauge sheetmetal to build those. They are 2" wide by 1.5" tall. We used that huge metal brake to turn them into a U shaped piece . We then closed up the U with a 2" wide piece of 3/16 guage .We then bent them at the B pillar to fit the shape of the now longer cab.
I the pics you saw further up, we just sat them on some cinder blocks to raise them to height.
We then marked them with chalk at the halves , and pushed them in under the rockers , leaving only about 3/4 of an inch sticking out.
Those will bolt to the frame , rahter than simply welded. I want to be able to simply remove them if they get damaged or if i just decide to reduce weight..... the suckers are heavy !
We threw the BMW X5 seats into the cab so as to get an idea of how they'll look and also to see how hard it will be to mount them in..... looks like it will work😁
I'll need to find a back seat later . That shouldn't be too hard.....
