actually with the adapter to the fine spline bolt patter there is nothing wrong with the old coarse spline as long as the back lash is set up properly. it is the slop that kills them old units...

old coarse spline thirds are only worth a hundred bucks or so a pop.

maybe more, maybe less, course if you can find someone who'll pay 400 cdn for a coarse spline third, give me his email address, I've got a stack of em !

cheers,
ryan

He's probably thinking about fine spline 4.11's out of a 78, 40 or fj62. That's the best bet but I knew a few guys that tossed in coarse spline 4.11's to an fj6o and they were fine. Depending on the year you might have to get new flanges or the ds end to the coarse unit. I run fine 4.11's in my bj70.

thats what I mean. the fine spline ones are worth a fair bit more to most folks, plus one doesn't have to buy adapters ( or rummage in ones pile of old driveshafts to mix and match the right ends....;) ) to put them in newer cruisers.

the old ones are good enough most of the time but like all things toyota, they upgrade for a reason. in this case the reason is actually ( catch that ? ) that the old ones arent as strong.

I don't mean to be tryin to stop you from getting as much as you can for your diffs jzilla , maybe try a search in the for sale section, you should get lots of results to help figger out a price.
