some progress. got the right knock sensor wire in the mail today so i was able to get this far. now i'm waiting for three injector grommets and banjo gaskets for the fuel lines. i'm going to put the new injector plugs on tomorrow and if the grommets and gaskets come in hopefully i'll be able to get it fired up.

I'm gonna have to look into those injector plugs. I usually break at least half of them when I'm taking one apart. Motor is coming together nicely. I just picked up my block, crank and heads from the machine shop today, so I'm gonna be putting it back together over the next few weeks.

got it back together! wont start! turns over and has spark... i'll try figure it out tomorrow.

timing

Check your distributor timing,it would be best to have a timing light and ground the connector when you check it.nice job on that engine.remember the rotor turns counter clockwise you need to drop the rotor before the #1 tip.;)

X2 on the distributor being out. I put my 22re back together once with the dizzy in 180* out and it would turn over but wouldn't hit a lick.

I really like the intake manifold. Did you do that or have it done? Is it paint or powdercoated?

it's rattle canned from when my brother owned the truck. i just block sanded the Toyota when i had it apart this time. i'm not getting fuel to the engine...

You can jumper the fuel pump and make sure it is still running. If you are good there then break apart the cold start fitting and bleed the air out. Also, did you replace the fuel filter, and if you did, did you make sure the arrow was pointing the right direction.

how would i jump the fuel pump?

Locate the diagnostic port next to the under hood fuse and relay box and flip it open. In the cap should be a list of the terminals.

Turn the ignition to on but DON'T start the truck, make sure the radio is off so you can listen. With the ignition on go back and place a jumper wire between terminal Fp and +B. You should hear the fuel pump start.

If you don't hear the pump running then you can check the efi relay and fuse and there is also a fusible link, but chances are the pump is bad.

alright so i feel really stupid right now but my fuel pump was unplugged.. i never "properly" relieve fuel pressure when i have to, i just crack a banjo and let it soak a rag. when i started pulling my heads this time i did and i forgot to plug the fuel pump back in.

borrowed a brand new timing light and was gifted the old one. the dist was a tooth off. fired up and runs great. now i have to pull it back into the shop because i'm leaking coolant at a pretty good rate from by the water bypass and i cant see where it's coming from.

water by pass outlet gasket wasn't on all the way. it was hanging halfway out the back. time for some ultra blue

think i'm gonna start a build thread. i got a lot going on, and have already done quite a bit.

Sweet. FWIW I refrained from pointing out the coil wire was unplugged when you first posted that. ;)

Looking forward to a thread, maybe even consider being a ROTM contributor.

i had to google what FWIW meant...

trying to figure out how to make room for a second battery... runs like champ! can't wait to get it back on the trail!

okay so if anyone is still paying attention to this thread.. i have some symptoms to diagnose. it was doing this before i did the heads too but i though it was the burned valve. in third fourth and fifth gear at about 2000 to 3000 rpm it will randomly start to stutter and lacks power like it's missing but if i put my foot to the floor it gets up and goes. it does the same if i let off the gas and then barely touch the gas, it'll run great. i cleaned the throttle body and changed the tps (had an extra) checked and adjusted it. it's got fairly new injectors, cap, rotor, wires and plugs. it sort of acts like the timing is off but it's on.

light?

Did you check if you have any codes?my best guess would be a worn spot on your throttle position sensor or your o2 sensor is going south.i had a similar symptom but it only happens when it's cold and feels gutless till the engine reach operating temp. then i replaced the o2 sensor and most of it was gone the next day.:D

Vacuum leak?

Sounds like you have checked all the usual suspects, so other than that I am not sure I can offer much.

i haven't check for codes because the light wasn't on but i'll go do that.
