If you want the core refund you need to send it back. Some folks prefer to keep their originals to clean them up and rebuild themselves for later use. I sent mine back. Rockauto subtracted about $14 from my core refund for a shipping label to ship them both back.

Cool - did you have to send the cores back? Or did they offer some kind of prepaid shipping label to get the cores back. I'm just considering the cost of getting the cores back to them as well too.

Thanks

Make sure to show us pics of your before of after

Been lurking on IH8MUD for a while. This is the 3FE I bought for my son as his first car. It was his grandpa's old truck that hasn't seen a ton of maintenance over the years so we are working on it till he is old enough to learn to drive. He has to work/do chores to earn money for parts and has to prioritize himself what needs to get fixed and what could wait. Body (except for a few minor dings) is straight and almost no rust. We already fixed the power steering pump and are doing a coolant flush / thermostat fix this weekend. The Range Rover Classic in the background is mine .. have had that one for almost 20 years. It is fun to compare the two side by side as I've here and there worked on the FJ80 in the past.

That would be a fun comparison. Similar eras I presume?

91 LC and a 95 RRC. The Toyota is much larger inside and seats 7 but feels a lot slower and less nimble. Each has their own weak spots actually that you can prepare for. Both are close in mileage too. I haven't done a recent comparison in parts cost but it seems to me that a lot more things are more easily available for the range rover still. I might just do a write up comparing both on here but I am afraid it will start a storm.

My 91 seats eight... I too thought it was only a 7 seater, until I found that extra buckle.

I posted this in the classifieds but thought the 3FE folks would want to know about it. I looked at this 1992 Land Cruiser in Joplin Mo. on Friday. Probably the cleanest one I have seen. I hope one of us 3FE folks picks it up and restores it. Very Very nice rig.

Wow, super clean!

Dude this is awesome! what a feeling. Where in the heck did you find an 80 in reasonable working shape for under $3K?

I'm in N. CA and that seems like a fairy tale scenario...
Here’s the story:
It was being sold by the son of a guy with a wrecking company. They had a title, but it was in someone else’s name and signed open. They said they had picked it up after some accident on the interstate, and the son kept it because it was cool. They didn’t have any $ in it I don’t think.
Dad was tired of it being in his driveway with all the other half functioning rigs and told his son to get rid of it.
Guy only listed it on Craigslist.
This part is hard to believe- my wife sent me the listing!
He originally had it at $8k, but we were patient.
One day I saw him drop it to $3k and so I go and check it out and find that the driveshaft is clunking like crazy and the odometer isn’t turning, But the engine seems smooth. I talked him down to $2700.
It had body damage from the accident on the front left fender, so it really wasn’t in the greatest shape.
I still feel like I could have got it for $2k if I had tried, but I am pretty happy. Put about another $4k into it so far. Fixed the body damage and baselined it and now I think I could turn it around for 8k easy if I wanted to. I could just as easily have gotten screwed, which I knew at the time but disregarded.

1992 That had not ran in a few years.
I got from a buddy for a deal.
I am mostly just getting it reliable and enjoying driving that tractor engine (3FE) on Urban streets.
Looking to add a flux capacitor to get it up to 80MPH
Paint Job from a small local shop in Long Beach CA $2500 cash:rofl: Arturo Auto Body 562-314-9536
Going thru all the electrical, sourcing all the lights and grill was a fun project (thanks offer up)
Found lots of parts at: Honda-Toy Parts Dismantlers Wilmington CA 310-830-4907
I love cruzin' on here to get your opinions and experience.

Nice to see another local 3FE, probably plenty of those here in LA. Did they fix up any rust spots for that $2500 paint job? or just paint only?
Is the Honda Toy parts like a pick and pull? I live pretty close to there as well too.

Thanks!

No Rust, it had a wrap that protected it from that and it was Cali car it's whole life.
Unfortunately the wrap also removed clear coat and even paint when it was removed.
The paint shop primered and smoothed the body but it was very straight.

The Honda-Toy place is a yard that you tell them what you want and they pull the part if they have it.
I suggest you call ahead for best service.

love the grey metallic. Care to share some more photos?! I’ve been shopping around for paint quotes and I’d be willing to drive down to SoCal for that.. I. Nor cal and the Bay Area I’ve been quoted 3-5 x that amount!

I've been thinking about driving across the border to TJ. Has anyone else done this?
I've heard it's super cheap in TJ.

well I bought back my 92 A few weeks back. Check my ROTW for that.

Not in the same condition as when I sold it but with a bit of love it will come back.

Also going to finally do the turbo to the 3fe and maybe build a 2feT.

Anyone have part numbers for the brake lines? I tried searching through google and ih8mud and couldn't find anything. I believe my front drivers side line is leaking but might as well replace all the lines while I'm at it. ( the reason why i believe it is leaking is that there is some type of oily residue all over the inside tire wall and the birfs are not leaking gear oil ( dry-ish).

Thanks
