I am installing the front end plate on my 3FE. Should I put any gasket treatment or something similar on the gasket between the block and the front end plate? I was going to use some Toyota Black FIPG but I wasn't sure if that is what is normally done. What is the best way to install the gasket and plate?

good question...I would think the thinnest smear of fipg on both sides would be the ticket; not enough to ooze anywhere, just enough to help stick it and back up the gasket some...Curious what others have done as well...

Thanks for the response. When I put this engine together 7 years ago I suspect that I put a little too much Toyota FIPG and that caused a small oil leak. The FSM doesn't say anything about coating the gasket but I think I will put a very very think layer of FIPG just to be safe. Anyone else have any thoughts regarding this?

just make sure the oil squirter isn't too far in...and are there a couple bolts that have to have thread sealer on them, or are those the front cover bolts? just the same, the are some bolts that go all the way thru and if they're not sealed, can look like leaky gaskets...
