Ditto.

But where is John? :bounce: Must be on vacation. No chiming from him yet?! Maybe he's down at the tire store swapp'n to 33's and different shocks :D

No gear swap and I would like to stay away from the air bags bit I will do them if I end up needing them.

My new buggy weighs in at 2700# wet and my trailer is around 1500# so I should be fine with the load if I keep it over the axles.

I plan on a Slee bumper without the tire carrier (hate swinging them out)

If I get the heavier springs will it sit stupid ass-high?

To be honest, the Slee bumper w/out tire carrier didn't drop the rear of my 100 much at all; not even half an inch. I'll take a couple pics today and post back up. I'll also take a measurement from the top edge of the wheel to the edge of the fender so you can compare to the stock height you have now.

Knowing what I know now, I would have started out with the 863's all along.

I'm not saying it doesn't work but you really don't appreciate the difference until you have the lower gearing. You get used to what you have and don't realize what you are missing. Once you wheel in a rig with nice low gearing, you really appreciate the difference.

There are actually several options to change the overall gearing (see the 4.88 threads). One other option is to change the gearing in the transfer case:

HF2AV transfer case -

Stock - 1.0:1/2.488:1 high/low ratios
Available - 1.0:1.1/3.115:1 high/low ratios

The 1.1 high can be sourced from Japan and the 3.115 low can be sourced from Australia.

I see 865, 866 and 863 in these threads and signatures. Please let me know what spring rates these numbers correspond to please...

865's and 866's are strictly for the 100. They yield about 2" of lift. The 866 is a progressive spring that goes from 240-300 lbf/in as the spring is compressed. The 865 is a constant spring, rated at 220 lbf/in.

The 860's and 863's are originally from the 80 series but work on the 100 too. They are both constant rates and are about an inch longer than the 865's and 866's. The 860 is rated at 220 lbf/in and the 863 are 250 lbf/in.

Here's a link to the OME Spring chart that Kurt was gracious enough to host for us. http://www.cruiseroutfitters.com/tech_OME_coils.html

You need to run a taller rear spring though to run the 315's. I just changed out to 863's on the rear. They give a true 3" lift with the Slee bumper installed.

That's one way, a stiff way to do it...though the best if you have a rear bumper.

The best way if you want to keep the cush ride is to add 20mm trim packs atop the 865 springs and 35's work great.

I think since you're a "wheeler" you'll appreciate the 100 if it's setup more like your 80. I think you'll find you'll want to take it out more and more and on harder trails. Then, on the nasty's you take the 80 out and wheel the not out of it.

There's pics of the identical truck (mine) at every stage for you to compare if you like.

Nolen hasn't had an 80 in 4-5 years. He has had 8 40s in that time, most of them just new incarnations of the same rig...

40's? Better yet! :)

See, everybody kept wondering why I wasn't posting....I'm dumb dumb. :)

WHOA!!! No 80 at home? That's even more reason to run the larger tire. It's take little work and experience shows the front end can handle the job easily. I think you would luv taking this out and to a zillion places IF you built it up.

If you're going that route, just run the 860. It's the same spring rate as the 865 just an inch taller. You'll save yourself the 50 bucks worth of trim packers.

Also, I like a stiffer ride and I was impressed with the 863's even before my Slee rear bumper. They ride the same as my 866's did. I did have the rear cargo drawers in though (That's 200-300 lbs.)

Good idea in 2005 but who knew that would work when I did it in 2002? :D Actually...the 860 sounds like a great idea for a 35-inch unloaded 100. :)

I'm an unloaded kind of guy. I miss some of the cush since adding the bump/863. When there's 4 on board though (rare) it rides nice.

Huh, all this time I thought you were loaded! :D

Or maybe I thought you were full of it! :D

I forget... :flipoff2:

You know what....my wife and I have been really sick since Saturday. We've NEVER been this sick. I've missed almost all week of work. It's crazy!

I'D LUV to go get LOADED right now....trust me. If I'm not better by the weekend I'm calling dr. Kavoukian. :D

IH8MUD FORUM (mainly 80 forum): CHEERING YEA!!!! NO MORE SHOTTS! HE HAD ONE TOO MANY SHOTS!

Bummer dude! Sorry to hear that; hopefully you feel better soon. If not and you die, please leave me your 100! :D

RUN THEM! My poo-geared 100 still beats a S/C and 4.88 (combo) 80-series from the light and up the hills and in total smooootheness. It's still enough power. Now would I like a 4.88 gear change? :D

John,

I'm sticking to my guns. Lower gearing would be sweet on the trail.

Consider my original formula:

35" tires are 15% higher than stock...

1.1 high gears for transfer brings you to 5% higher than stock

3.115 low gears for the transfer brings you to 10% lower than stock

I think if you shopped around for a deal on an extra transfer case you could do this for less than regearing the axles AND have the original transfer case to sell or keep as an extra.

**OH, I AGREE. THAT'S WHY I JUST 4.88'd MY LEXUS

Consider my original formula:

35" tires are 15% higher than stock...

**12% :)

1.1 high gears for transfer brings you to 5% higher than stock

3.115 low gears for the transfer brings you to 10% lower than stock

T-case swap....heluva thought. Not worth it to me though. With great throttle control the 100's acceptable to me. I'd mainly like the gears for downhills. The 2-foot method works on the rocks as is.

Are you going to put airbags in the rear for towing?

It's not nice to talk about Christo that way.... :D

Nolen, you should get in touch with whoever you plan to sell this truck to the moment you're finished building it. Let them make the decision.

I might still drive the turbo truck down to Round-up. Then there will be a low mileage 01 for sale pretty soon. I can not see how coming from a Duramax for towing throttle boy is going to be happy with a stock 01. Hell, if he would have been, he would never have put a LT1 in the 40 :D
