Rogue,

In reference to your thought about extra keys.

The air around said vehicle would be thick with M2 ball fluttering around.

Jim,

Fantastic news! Now go place a few pounds on the Ladies and Gentlemen's finals at Wimbledon while you are on a lucky streak! Love the dog too!!! :D :D

Jim,

Short story. Doorbell rings about 3AM on a Saturday morning. Friend says she needs someplace to stay... says she lost her house keys and someone stole her car at the pub. Next morning I drive her back to the pub so she can look for her keys. There's her car in the valet parking section. :D

All right, tell us the REST of the story...

wob,
Not much else to tell other than I didn't believe for a minute that her car had been stolen.  At the time she owned a Pontiac Fiero; nobody would steal that piece of automotive crap.  :D

(Oh, did you mean the yada yada yada part?)

Funny thing about those Fieros. You could hold a cig lighter up to the body panels, and after a while they would burn. Appropriately named, I guess. :D

The way your story started, it seemed like it was going to get juicy.

" Short story. Doorbell rings about 3AM on a Saturday morning. Friend says she needs someplace to stay... " Begin sleazy porn music.

Great to hear it Jim. I've been on the road and missed the whole thing. I've been there, you go through that whole emotional process

wondering where you parked it
denying anyone stole it
sick to your stomach that someone stole it
bummed that it is gone
angry that someone stole it
RAGING with REVENGE when you get your hands on the SOB who stole it!

In high school a guy I knew drove his car to school in the morning, took the school bus home and thinking someone had stolen his car called the cops. Needless to say until graduation he paid the price for that one.

:D Bill

This is not one of those stories. I don't want to be forever remembered as the Brit that forgot where he left his car..

I can see the way this is going. I'm going to have to post the Police report 8)

Cheers

Sorry Jim,
You don't graduate for another year! :D
Bill

Congrats Jim!!! Now there will be many more posts with you bragging to us about all of the cool stuff your cruiser has!!! :D

Jim ,

We have a commercial here in North America . An Austin Mini comes screaming into the frame ... Surprisingly a cop gets out and walks back to his awaiting cruiser . The actual owner of the Mini is standing nearby , and the cop throws him back his keys as he announces .."I'll let you off with a warning this time..."--*subtle grin*

So I'm thinking that the local police probably took it for a joy ride ... parked it 5 miles away to throw you off and then made you feel you were losing your mind . Letting you off with a warning .."don't forget where you've parked again Mate !"

Tyler

PS : Is there any chance that the 80's computer has captured any of the 'trip' these thieves took ? Any traces at all by way of some remote , residual data ... ?

Jim:

It's strange how the mind works, as I was waking up this AM I was thinking about your truck being taken and the strange circumstances of finding it close by and with nothing taken. Then I remembered reading something about this is what pros do to check if there is a tracking system - they take the truck, quickly move it to some location and then leave it. They either continue to monitor it and take the truck if it isn't claimed, or they come back later and then take it.

I'm not sure if tracking systems are in place in the UK, but this could explain what happened, givne that a LC is likely quite rick and rare in the UK and very popular in many places where these are shipped to (Russia, Africa, etc). As Dan mentioned, if this is the case, they really do know what they are doing and probably have keys - they may have even followed you home to see where the truck lives.

Cheers, Hugh

Hugh

We have satellite tracking too, so your theory sounds good. If this is what happened, will the thief not assume that I do have satellite tacking? Most of the time the truck is parked outise my house or at work, either way it's pretty safe. As a precaution though, I'm taking the fuse out and have bought a steering lock.

Like your theory, Jim
