Doubt the diesel is dead in other markets, just the petrol v8s.

also, highly doubt they’ll do a CVT trans.
The transmission in the LS 500 h is apparently a combination of a CVT plus an auto box with 4 speeds.

That article is poorly written and doesn’t clearly define what applies to the 300...
”Gone will be the old six-speed automatic gearbox, replaced by a CVT and full-time four-wheel drive” certainly doesn’t refer to the current 200.

New Toyota Land Cruiser Rumored For August Debut With Hybrid Power

The next-gen Land Cruiser will receive a new look, too, though BestCarWeb.jp's story appears to suggest it'll be an evolutionary design change – we're using a rough translation. It'll also feature a trapezoidal grille similar to that on other recent Toyota vehicles. Insider, there'll be seating for either five or eight – two or three rows of seating. Expect Toyota's full suite of amenities and safety features in the next-gen Cruiser, too.

Yawn...
Renderings.... renderings....
...and more......RENDERINGS.

Renderings =
Imaginative **speculation.

We’ve seen probably a dozen over the last several years... I still remember one of the first...which reminded me of a vehicle made out of a melting crayon... ;)

Toyota announced, in March of 2015, that they would discontinue the manufacturing of the Venza for the US market in June of 2015. Not sure how timing has worked with other Toyota discontinuations but the short three month gap could be telling of what to expect for the NA LC.

The bump in marketing efforts of the LC in NA seems to counter that. However, I won’t believe anything fully til I hear it from Toyota’s mouth.

I think most of the world is still on the 6spd auto even after the US got the 8spd.

The 8-speed is only offered on 5.7L V8s here, all the other LC trims (4.6L V8, 4.5L V8, 4.0L V6) still have the 6-speed.

Australia only ever got the 6 speed, never the 8 speed (although we did get the 5 speed and 4.7L petrol for a while in the very early 2007-2008 models)

Some markets even got the manual in both V8 and V6

The LC 500h employs a hybrid powertrain, known as the Lexus Multi Stage Hybrid system. It consists of a 3.5-litre 8GR-FXS V6 engine which produces 220 kW (295 hp; 299 PS) at 6,600 rpm and 356 N⋅m (263 lb⋅ft) of torque at 5,100 rpm, in addition to two electric motors whose total output is 132 kW (177 hp; 179 PS) and 300 N⋅m (220 lb⋅ft) of torque. Combined power output over the entire system is 264 kW (354 hp; 359 PS) and 500 N⋅m (370 lb⋅ft) of torque

Now Hybrid power doesnt add its full power output to an engine, hence the combined power is only 264kw. Torque is up from 356nm NA to 500nm with hybrid...(+144nm)

SO we conclude 264kw with the NA 220kw = hybrid 44kw 144nm torque

Now we know the 3.5-litre twin-turbo V6 produces a healthy 310kW and 600Nm.

So turbo's add 90kw over NA. 244nm more torque.

So 3.5L twin turbo + hybrid Power will be 310kw + Hybrid 44kw should be 354kw.

Torque will be 3.5L Twin turbo 600nm + Hybrid 144nm = 744nm

So 300 series = 354kw 744nm

This is the 3.5L twin turbo before they add the hybrid. We knew about this back in Feb 2019. Note its more than the recent claim of 220kw.....

Based on a report on MUD from a Toyota dealership general manager, and verbally told to me by another dealership's fleet manager, the 2021 USA Land Cruiser will still be a 200 series truck. Assuming Toyota USA is telling their general managers the truth, at least part of the rumors have to be false.

On the other hand, Australia is a much more important market for Land Cruiser than the US. Maybe they will trial run a 300 (or a 300 powerplant option) in AUS before the US ever sees it.

The test mules have been running here for a while and had a few different engine configs. Obviously keeping things close to their chests but the V6 was definitely in one of them. We also know the hybrid is coming due to patents, the Lexus trade marks for the new models etc. The V6 info isnt anything new, we already knew about the 8GR-FXS back in Feb 2019 but some media outlets are carrying on like its some amazing new info.

Dealership managers are often the last to know. In fact they needed to be corrected about a lot of info when the facelift was released as the toyota web sites were actually incorrect. They are fed a specific company line.

personally i believe the 300 series is being moved forward due to the publicity that is being shown to the likes of Tesla. Toyota will re-write the narrative with the new 300 and ensure the cybertruck becomes irrelevant. Toyota is a big player globally, companies like tesla have stuck thier necks out and about to get em chopped. This of course is just opinion, but you dont become the No#1 manufacturer on the planet by accident. Toyota arent silly

If test mules have been "running for a while" why is there not a single photo of one out?

The same body, different power plant under. You wouldn't even know it was a mule unless someone told you or you had access to under the hood. Redesigned body would drive some pictures. So most likely new power plant in old body to test things out and then move it to new body as step 2 a year later or even later.

Pics of the 200 were out well before it was announced.

This is exactly what has been happening and mechanic's etc are all under NDA's.

That was Feb for an August release.... We still have time :D

I believe that mules are used relatively early in the development process. If the 300 is scheduled for release later this year, Toyota would be testing camouflaged prototypes, rather than mules.

Although Toyota is pretty good about keeping prototypes out of the press, I think it is highly unlikely that the 300 will be released in 2020.
