Recently replaced head gaskets on 95 4runner. No codes in normal or 'test' mode. Now I have an intemittant hiccup at any driving speed or idle. Engine loses power less than a second and then continues running normally, engine light illuminates at same time and then goes out. I threw a rebuilt "volume air flow" at the problem, which did not fix it. Anyone have similar problem that could offer advice? Any and all help is appreciated.
This is my first post to mud, I've been lurking on LCML for the past ten years. My vehicles: daily driver 1986 FJ60 (6.2 diesel), 1986 4runner, 1987 FJ60, 1995 4runner, 1976 TE51 liftback (project), 1976 FJ55(project), 1979FJ40 (son's project), 1986 2wd pickup (rebuild and flatbed inprocess)

First off, welcome to MUD!

I was going to ask if there were any codes, then read your post again. The Check Engine Light coming on tells me that the engine is likely stalling, then restarting. It would be just like when you turn the key on without starting the engine.

Somehow, you'll need to be connected to the fuel & ignition systems while driving, then when the hiccup occurs, you can see if one of those items is dropping out. Intermittent issues can be the hardest to fix. Once the engine stalls and won't restart, then you'll be able to find the problem much easier.

Sorry I couldn't be more help.

thanks TDon

Thanks for the reply. Hopefully I'll find a smoking gun when I disassemble for a valve adjustment. I think they removed too much material on the heads and now I've got a lot of valve noise that I didn't have before. I have the FSM, it looks like "adjusting" the valves is kind of a science project, have you done this and is there a way not to use the Toyota SST for inserting/removing shims? thanks again ToyotaDon!
