cool deal. Not being in the know.... might i ask why the bent frame? Wreck?

wow, you move quick! I'm assuming the power antenna is broken?

Ah yes, and it's on order along with some new (choke, -gag, choke) Keys.

Words I never thought I'd hear in this section . . . .

I just thought I was being long winded there Trunk....

I was out Wheeling with Spressomon and Locrwln1 in the eastern Sierra and then headed back solo to Hwy 395. Dirt road, 35MPH, S-turn, eyes on iPod, up right embankment, on two left wheels, corrected, over left embankment and found boulders. (which kept me from rolling over)

Aluminum rims absorb energy very well.

I'm a trained amature kids, don't try at home this with your parents car.

look like that one might have hurt

Man, glad to see the damage was confined to the wheel and the truck didn't go over, that's not a pleasant experience.

look like that one might have hurt

I didn't feel anything for a day, then the clavicles started that dull ache from the seat belt. My pride was the worst injury. It was a ride to remember though...

....and the frame, suspension and rocker area...

See the pride thing above. :flipoff2:

Well, it's moving along slowly, but surely. I found time to get the springs and airbags moved over for the rear lift. The torsion bars were sagging so much, I couldn't even lift it 1/2 an inch. So I re-indexed the bars up front 4 splines and have plenty of adjustment now.
I only lifted the front about 1.5 inches until I can build another diff drop and get my skid plate on this one.
The rear locker "in-high-range" mod is on hold because I came up with another idea about where to splice the wires for a cleaner install of a switch.

I've gotten a couple of PM's about the bags, so here you go Fish.
The Air Lift Bags that I have have been working out great on the 98, and now the 99. They simply go inside the rear coils and you have to drill out the hole on the axle spring mount bracket. The first trick is to get the rear end high enough to then drop the axle enough to get the springs out. I have some overkill jack stands so it worked out good.

Then you have to drill out the hole for the air lines to go through.

Then slide the bags into the coil, and attach the hoses. Feed the hose through the hole and fit the spring up into place. The kit comes with enough hose and a tee to place the fitting just about anywhere in the back. I'm going to move mine up into a corner of the Slee bumper for easy access. And no, they haven't made ANY differerence on or off road.

NOTE: When ever you are working around the axle, just get the spare out of the way. And watch the tension on all the ABS wires, and brake hoses when you start dropping the axle. You will need to disconnect the sway bar to get the axel to drop enough.

One thing that helped SSSOOOOO much much having the ratchet wrenches in the right size for the top shock mounts. I installed the Bilteins on the rear while I was at it, and you'll need a 7/8 wrench for this. $30 for the one wrench was well worth it to me. It cut the job in half from last time with a box wrench.

Now as it sits, until I get around to the diff drop.

And the trailer with a 350 lb tounge weight feels nice even without the weight distribution hitch.
RRqtrLR.webp

And yes, sliders will replace the freakin' step rails soon. Time, I just need more time and daylight. Or a bigger shop.

Damn...Truck bend the frame at 35mph???...I was thinking hundy frame is more stonger than that..

Anyway..glad you made it without an injury

So r u going to sue apple now for the damages :flipoff2:

35 MPH Estimated. That's my story & I'm sticking it to it. :hhmm: (for the :princess: )

And the Apple thing? Maybe for a new 160 gig Classic.

Thanks Campflame :grinpimp: I think the bags would be great for me - I don't want or need a lift really since I do more expedition type mellow stuff - but I do put in some heavy loads of fishing and camping gear - and also load my KTM dual sport on a tilt trailer lift. Those bags would be NICE...

Apple non longer makes the 160GB - I have one and love it though... I've burned about 60 movies on there (along with 5,000 songs) and with the RCA jack it's the ultimate kids travel toy... :D

Camp, the truck looks sweet! Keep up the great work.

Campfire, Looks great!

Don't mean to hijack your thread but I'm looking for taller jack stands and I noticed the ones that you have. Where did you get those and how much? Are they 6 ton rated? Would you recommend them?

No problem Alex, that's what it's about here. Share our tricks and tools to advance the Cruiser.
They are Sumner stands or actually pipe jacks, made in Texas, rated at 2500 lbs. Not that strong, but great for fab work and tall reach situations. My son got them for me through a friend at a large shop. I also have a smaller set that collaspe the legs for storage.
You can find them online at different places.

I have to agree, white does look SO much better but maybe it's just because I have taste in such things:grinpimp:

I can't believe all that stuff that was behind the cupholder. And it looked so clean!

Also, the JTH sticker on the bumper adds just the right touch of class . . .

White IMO is the perfect overlanding/expedition shade!

Well the snow is falling in the west and I had some flashbacks to a certain two pinion front diff. (just had some shivers over that thought)
So, knowing that my four pinion was there in the 98, and the wife opened the VISA bill and saw more stuff than she knew about... The ARB is on the Christmas list.
I decided the salvage yard will get a 99 front diff. Some time in the driveway and the donor now sits with about a 6 inch lift in the front. It's amazing what all that stuff weighs.
frtprts.webp

And in the process of removing stuff, I found one of the noises. I found the compression limits of a Bilstien.
shock.webp
Yep, that's half a shock there. The other half is still in the truck.

Now on to swapping it into the 99.... the diff, not the shocks.

Well that's interesting. Stock bumpstops? Since this shock is specified for the 100 Series (I assume that's the -39/40 pair), I would think Bilstein would replace for free, if it's doing that under "normal" conditions.
