I had a vacuum leak and thought that it was my intake/exhaust gasket. Upon removal, I found it to be a crack in the bottom of the intake manifold. I separated the intake from the exhaust manifolds and took it to my nearby motor machine shop.

Weld it and use a block off plate.

Considering how long it took to crack in the first place, the chances of it cracking again once it’s been welded are pretty low.

The block off plate is a nice idea, as long as it’s not thicker than the original deflector shield. Otherwise, it will throw off the alignment of the ears where the manifold bolts to the head.

www.Cruiseroutfitters.com sells the plate, of you choose to go that way.

The machine shop welded it but did not guarantee. I fabricated a block off plate from some scrap aluminum. I mixed sand and 2000 deg. fire caulk and filled the space under the manifold. attached the block off plate and let the caulk mixture kinda splooge out. After about an hour, I gave the block off bolts some exrtra cowbell, It seems to have fixed the problem.
