So I pulled my head and it ended up being cracked. The casting number of this FJ60 head from 1986 is 61040. I found a replacement and purchased it but am now noticing some differences in the cast (amount of stud holes) the "replacement head" casting number i'm reading is 60030 will this work for me cruiser gurus?

Link to photos. Yes I looked all over the threads and still am unable to acquire a firm answer.

Probably a lot more info in the FJ40 section, but 60030 is not the correct head.

I will trade you a 61040 for the 61030 if you want to visit the 818 ....

I think it was FJ40Jim who posted this pic: 61040 on the left.

Your photo-bucket link only shows the top of the heads. Flip the 61030 over and post a pic.

I could be way off base hear but I was thinking Mark W said you could use the earlier head but it needed to be shaved down .1" to close up the open chamber.

Photos 1-3 are of the head I purchased, from further investigating I think it's a 1974 1.5F head? Casting numbers are 60030. Really dropped the ball here and was in a rush to buy it and leave. Didn't have my cracked head to look at during the time to compare. My main concern was the smog air injection ports and to be closed chamber.

Photos 3-6 are the 2F head off of the FJ60 61040

The kidney-shaped chambered head is the 61040 and you can see the diff w/ the combustion chamber of the 61030. You can bolt the 61030 to the block, but your resulting compression will be very low and your truck will run like shizzle.

Supposedly you can shave the 61030 to make it work, but I'd just find the correct head to avoid further problems.

For illustrative purposes, Here's the 61010 beside the 61031 open chamber (again).

And a 600xx next to 61031 next to 61040.

The 61040 will also allow ability to run 3F manifolds and carbs, all still supported, in the future. (As will the non-US 61010, but have to be cautious, since there are low octane variants on eBay from time to time.)

The pictured 60030 is 1970 USA-spec F engine. It has date code Sept 69, 10mm manifold bolts vs 12mm, no provision for oiling rocker shaft. Put it in scrap bin and get a 61040 casting.

I needed a head awhile back and researching local cruiser shops they were 500-1500
I got the 500 dollar one I drove to Stockton to get it but it was an extremely reliable source and it had been magnafluxed on pressure tested for cracks before I got it

I'm rebuilding my 61010 NON US head and was wondering if someone embedded new seats in such? I went to the heads shop and they told me that it doesn't have extractable seats although toyota have part numbers for the seats. Any info on that? Also found SBI part numbers but it seems that OD is too big.

Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks
