Is anyone here good with 2F carb tuning? I suspect the carb isnt tuned right and some of my vacuum lines are crossed. Carbs are one thing i have very little experiece with and would like some help if anyone is willing.

That is one area I never got into. I blew the engine and went 3FE which had its own issues.

Have you replaced all of the vac lines yet?

I'd be interested as well, my carb is slightly different but the fundamentals should be similar.

Tyler,

OTRAMM has a YouTube channel and I'm pretty sure this is a covered topic. Also Pinhead has some YouTube videos that cover rebuilding 2F carbs, I think some tuning is covered there as well. I have a vacuum gauge and a timing light if you'd like to use them.

I have replacement line but havent gotten around to verify the routes and replace them. I know it needs to be done and probably will here soon. I also will probably do my valve adjustment at the same time since I'm driving into her.

That would be awesome, I have a cheap vacuum gauge but no timing light. It's a new carb but I think the shop that put it on didn't route the lines correctly and didn't tune it. It seems like my secondary works sometimes and sometimes it doesnt so I know vacuum is off. I need to get the vacuum right before trying to tune it.

Ok so yeah definitely change every one of the 80' of lines in that engine bay and do the vales. If you still need to tune the carb better to do so thereafter rather than accidentally patch other problems with carb tuning.

BTW, what is she doing that suggests the carb is out of tune?

Nothing major, it runs super rich and I have smog due in 2 months so I need to get her tip top shape to pass smog.

Typically vac lines cause lean but maybe the PO made some compensatory tweaks sometime back.

I am out of town until Friday, but could help this weekend. Let me know...

Next weekend could work... I could also come over on the weekdays if that works.

Wasn't a carb issue in my 62, but I will say replacing all the vacuum lines that had been baking in the Texas sun for a couple decades made a huge difference in engine performance. The 3FE now stands a fighting chance when accelerating uphill. I ended up going with silicone hose from Boost Controller.

@Tylerh84 do you have the emissions manual for your year? I have the 81 and newer one I can send you as a PDF and some other good resources.

Unfortunately i live in a townhouse and have very little room to wrench. (HOA doesnt allow me to wrench anyway but i usually leave the garage door shut.) usually anything major I prefer to do at a wrench day.

I do not have the emissions manual for mine. It's an 84.

You could bring it to my place if that's an option. I'm in Encinitas.

I can post the manuals on my site and send you the link...

Whatever works for you bud. I can shoot you my email. You have a google account? if so i can give you access to add files to the Beach N Toys file share.

PMed you with download link for FJ60 stuff and with my gmail address...

I'm in the middle if you want to make a wrench day at my place in Escondido.
