Noob question. No one to date knows the REAL answer. If you don't know 100% on this question, please don't respond.

did ALL (meaning 100%) of auto 22re trucks have 4.30 gears? Every FAQ is super vague about it.

Thanks in advance...

i bought this truck used, i did not look at the tag but i did the rotating test, it had 4.88's, if i did the test right. i do not know if they were ever changed, i wish i would of kept them.

oh the stupid s*** i did before mud.

hey Jerod, the info i used to deduct even with the turn test was not from a reputable Toyota source.

so their info was most likely wrong. but as i do not have the truck anymore i can not say or redo the diffs to see. hell i can not even get to the tablet i wrote the info down in, my garage looks like a Christmas tree farm right now.

The stock Toyota 4.88 differential was a variant of the V6/Turbo Diff which was not available till 86, and the 4.88 diff was not available till there was a stock 31 inch tire option in the early 90's. I'm sure someone swapped 4.88 gears into your truck to run bigger tires.

I'm not 100% sure on the question, so I'm not gonna post, but if I did post something, it would be to say that Bud (BudBuilt) and I parted out an unmolested bone stock '85 pickup a few years ago that had an auto trans, there were 4.30's in the diffs. He told me that was the factory standard setup.

But you didn't hear it from me.

ok KLF i should have kept my mouth shut knowing that i did that test from a sub standard publication, that every thing i learned about Toyota's from reading that mag has been wrong including they did not make a 4-runner in 84. once again open mouth insert foot!

I parted out an '86 4Runner 22re auto and it had 4.30's....
...as for 100% of them having that gear who knows...

I've owned a Toyota 4Runner that was V6 AT and 4:11.

Also own one that is V6 AT and 4:56...

I've also seen a @89 RE/AT 4x4 with 4:56 (or was it 4:88s?) and I've owned an 87 RE/AT that had 4:30s...

So I'd say it all boils down to whats on the tag, or the paint code... And if those two are not possible, a spin test.

My best guess is that 4 cylinder/Auto's came with 4.30's until around 87, when they started to offer other options. obviously in 88 the V6 came out and changed the game again... I've seen a history somewhere that had the diff ratio's listed for years and engine/trans options, but I can't seem to find it now...
