Between the manifold and downpipe, mine are apparently shot once again for the second time in three years. Is replacement easy enough without a lift, and any ideas on how to keep them from wearing so quickly?

Long extension, 14mm 6-point deep socket. Get new nuts, they are a one-time use nut with an oblong hole. If you try to re-use the old nuts, they will come loose and drive you crazy.

Do you have the little hanger thingy that bolts to the bellhousing and clamps to the exhaust? This keeps that joint from flexing as the engine moves around.

I second this... Nuts one use only, and that hanger are both very important.
