22R source?

Who's bought a japanese aftermarket 22R? Any reccomendations on a source? Rebuillt mine, head needed shim, lasted about 6 mos. I'm done with this one. Ideas?

I don't have any first-hand information, so I hesitate to even post this, but I've heard bad things about the "blue engines on Craigslist."

can't you get thicker head gaskets? or am I crack?

Not sure about the thicker head gaskets, my machine shop reccomended the shim. I've not torn the engine down, but the head gasket is definitely toast. I shouldve bought a new head, since this one had been decked to the max. Live and learn. Bottom end still sounds fine, and the truck starts and runs fine as long as you have a limitless supply of oil and water

No and yes.





How warped really was it? Was shaving beyond its limits?

Yep, theres a minimum thickness before you get valve interference. The head was shaved, but had to shim it to bring it up to acceptable tolerance.

Just be carefull on them aftermarket anything! I've heard some horror stories about some blocks that became worthless due to overbore and the like that were sold as "racing engines".... Yeah right!
