I found yet ANOTHER good deal on a 4Runner right up the street from myself. He says the timing chain broke, but it comes with a new timing chain. $400, little rust, CB, 5speed, new windshield, new distributor, and a few other little parts. He swears up and down that if I throw a new timing chain in it (which is a job I happen to dislike) it would run fine. I thought the pistons smashed the valves in 22r's if the chain jumped or broke?????

I do know if a few occasions where it survived with no damage, but it is very rare. Plan on rebuilding or replacing the head.

Scratch that, I told him I needed to talk to my "people" about this first lol. I already have plans of putting a new engine in my new runner and I only need one engine project at a time lol. I thought maybe IF (which I was sure I couldn't, and was right!) I could just throw a t-chain on it and drive it, then it was well worth the $400.

something quick and easy to do is loosen the cam so all the valves are closed. put some air in the cylinders and see if they leak. also you should be able to see if all the valves are at the same height approx. good luck.

My number 1 valve bit the dust after the chain broke.

Pistons should be fine. You'll have bent valves if the chain broke or jumped significantly while the rig was running. I've dealt with this on a few rigs.
