22r/22re blocks

Have a 1990 pickup with the 22re, bad block (crack in cylinder wall) and was wondering if a 85 celica engine would work for a donor block or engine? Not really familiar with the differences between the 22r/e engines

Just remember, 1985.

Pre 85 was the tall deck 20/22R's.

Post 85 is de-decked 22R/E's.

And you can but I would never interchange the heads...


And to paraphrase LC, crank and rods are the same. Toyota changed the wrist pin locations to accommodate block deck.

Tall deck 20 and 22R blocks have these high top pistons in them.

RE's are more "flat top"

I disagree. Any 22R/RE engine 85 and newer that came in a mini truck is the same internally other than the cam and accessories. I've swapped more than one 22RE head onto what used to be 22R's when doing EFI.

I think he was talking about the early R blocks. Yes, 85+ blocks were the same R-RE.
