I'm pretty bummed I missed this, but I would have worried the whole time and smoked everyone out with my rear main leak. My dad and I did take the 40 out this weekend though. We ran the Ringing Rocks trail. I lost my oil fill cap about 15 miles in. The resulting vacuum leak made it a little tough to keep it idling, but we made it through. We used 2-1/2 quarts of oil over 161 miles.
heck Seth, you would have fit right in lol. you missed a good one buddy. your name was even mentioned on how we wished you could have made this one. I'm waiting for Matt's and Stevens pics and stories, otta be good

2-1/2 quarts? I got that beat.

Saturday's run went great for me. It was the trip over to P-burg Friday night that had drama.

I was cruising down I-90 at 65mph just past Whitehall when I suddenly noticed the burro was creating a massive smoke screen. Like James Bond worthy. Immediately shut her down and coasted to the side of the interstate. Lifted the hood and found a pin hole in the plastic tubing for the aftermarket oil gage I installed a while back. It was spraying oil (at 50 psi) right onto the exhaust pipe. After deciding I-90 wasn't the place for the repair, I limped a few miles further to the Pipestone exit. By then I had lost a ton of oil. I had both the new and OE gage functioning. The new gage read zero while the OE gage did have some reading of oil pressure. I kept watching to make sure I didn't go completely dry. And coasted the last few hundred yards into the pullout.

So, I've screwed myself with the problem before, twice on my old ford. Same exact problem. Guess it takes three kicks in the butt before I learn. Thankfully I placed a T from the block to install the new gauge. So I pulled the T and inserted the OE gage back into the block. Problem fixed. Massive mess.

I coated our cruiser with 5 quarts of 10W-30. So, you know, I won't have to fluid film the driver's half of the cruiser.

Yikes! We got back to the house and immediately took showers and changed clothes since we both reeked of burned oil. Still, I'm glad we went. Chances to do stuff like that with my dad get fewer every year. My daughter is getting more and more interested in going for a ride in the 40 though, so I have to get a rear bench and seat belts put in very soon. I can't begin to tell you how happy it makes me that she is interested in riding around in that old truck with me.

I may have found one of my knocks that was bothering me for most of the trip.

Grease would be a great help here. The grease in the pin was hard a rock. Another concern in the flange and the pin, the spliced section on the shoulder of the pin is a fuzz loose in the flange.

While I sort that out I need to do a quick rebuild on the carb, I have an issue with it siphoning the bowl dry through the primary.
