I get what he was saying. It is the same as calling a Bentley a glammed up VW Phaeton. It is pretty simplistic to judge vehicles based on them sharing a common platform. I suspect there will be substantial differences between the Land Cruiser and 4Runner.

I personally believe the 4Runner will be limited to the 4 cyl engines, probably not get EKDSS, and will have different sheet metal.
I disagree.

The 4Runner has always been very similar to the GX. With the LC 250 being a rebadged GX 550, then the 4Runner is going to be very similar to the LC 250 and there won't be much room between a top trim 4Runner and a bottom trim LC 250.

So it appears likely the symmetry that exists between GX, LC and 4Runner will continue moving forward. This indicates all three models will still be made in the Tahara factory in Japan. That would be excellent news.

Toyota claims about 29 inches of articulation on the 300. That seems unrealistic. But if you combine that with the wheelbase it calculates out to 732 RTI score on a 20° ramp. I think the GX is going to be identical. So the extra 2 degrees is rounding, tires, or??

I don't think the 300/lx will be protected anymore. The LX is not a halo off-road vehicle anymore. Arguably it's not an off-road model at all. It has less clearance than a Rav4. And the base model likely has less articulation than many current Toyota models - need some tests to see.

As far as pricing - you can't compare to markets that include VAT or on-road fees. We know the Prado is slightly cheaper than the 4runner in markets both are sold in. The 4runner is the obvious guide to USA pricing. I think it'll be significantly overlapped between them. LC is unlikely to match Sequoia pricing. So about 55-70k.
Come to Qatar
Let me take you out to the dunes and show you if the LX 600 is a real off road vehicle or a raV 4 ;).

The LX 600 won't have less articulation than a 570 that's for sure, even without AHC, because that's the same suspension setup as the base 300 and that has excellent articulation. An actual ramp test would be an interesting test to do, maybe I'll do one someday!.

The top trim Prado in Japan is $51k USD. That's inline with the top trim 4runner. They're the same car with different sheet metal. Pricing is going to be nearly identical. Next generation, who knows 🤷🏼

There are some price caps IMO. The bronco raptor is $85k, but it's realistically $20k away from a 350hp LC250. And the Sequoia TRD pro is 77k and it's the hybrid. The equivalent LC will be at least $5k less is my guess. Probably closer to $10k less. I think it tops out about $70k with ttv6. If it's only 4cyl - 65k max.

The LC is a reskinned lc300. So, is a reskinned, reskinned lc300 a real Land Cruiser if the 300 is really just a baby Sequoia anyway?
The LC300 being the flagship product, came first ( was the first TNGA-F product to be developed ), then everything else was developed around it.

The 250/300 will evolve and develop in the future and will without a doubt remain for future generations. I hear an all electric GX successor is already in the early development stages ( mentioned on some forums).

The question is, will the Sequoia last beyond this generation?

Sales are so low compared to the 150/300 and without a doubt the 250 will end up selling more than the Sequoia too. They saved the Seq from the axe once, will they do it again?
We still don't have full year Seq sales because it hasn't been exactly a year since it went on sale, but I really have a feeling it won't survive a next gen.

My guess is, the LC300 replacement ( LC400) will grow in size a little, not a lot but think Y62 Patrol/US Armada size ( and soon Y63 ). With the LC250 being 300 sized, I see room for that to happen now, especially since a lot of LC300 owners are actually complaining it feels to tight inside.

All I can say is what a time to be BoF Toyota fan.

I personally think the 4R should remain around its current size, lots of current GX/Prado owners may feel alienated by a product that in some aspects is even bigger than the LC300 (total width for example with those mirrors)

I know we like to make fun of the Prado for being a baby land cruiser, but sometimes a baby land cruiser is all you need! The new 250 is like the baby LC that got all the growth genes lol.

I would be surprised if the 4runner doesn't get some version of E-KDSS. It seems weird having such a nice system and then only having it on so little vehicle cross the range.

With the discussion of the RTI I got curious about the LC250 dimensions as compared to the GX 550. The first thing I noted in the comparison below was that the greenhouse window angles and length are all the same, the wheelbase is the same, etc. So it's clear the underlying structural body cage is identical with only the exterior sheet metal skin being different between the GX 550 and LC250.

Therefore, we can assume the dimensions will be virtually identical with the GX 550:
Length: 197.04" w/ trailer hitch, 194.88" w/o trailer hitch
Width: 77.95" w/o mirrors, 83.22" w/ mirrors
Height: 76.18 in. (GX 550 Overtrail)
Wheelbase: 112.2"

I am not gonna lie, this thing is taking ages to be revealed. It is almost August, in a few months manufacturers will be unveiling 2025 Models and we still didn't see the 2024 LC....

Just as a point of reference, here is the top trim for the 2023 Prado in France. It starts at 81,050 euros (US$91,000) plus options. A 3500 to 5000 euros increase is expected above and beyond the 2023 pricing. That would put this model “starting” at say 85,000 euros (US$96,000.) Normally the EU price in euros winds up being the US$ price. That would put the top trim GX/LC250 starting at US$85,000. How many trims of the LC250 are you expecting? Would there be a $30K difference between trims?

That is so expensive. I think it will definitely be priced better in the US.
You guys actually get decent pricing compared to alot of markets, even us in the Middle East, if we compare the highest spec LX 600 for example in the US, it is cheaper than our Highest spec LX by a lot.

Precisely. The top trim 4Runner today is $55K, and people want to say the lower trim LC250 will be $55K? That does not work… even if the LC250 is $60 or $65K unless they are essentially the same vehicles. So the Tahara team will continue to mix and match to come up with three models that are essentially the same moving forward. Great! It seems like a probable explanation.

The Sequoia was designed on a budget and that hurts it. It has a solid rear axle, reducing third row space compared to the Tahoekonburbanalislade. I think that was a bad mistake which will significantly hurt it in the US market.

I remember reading some place that they actually had bigger plans for the Tundra/Seqouia a separate HD platform @Jetboy I think mentioned this too in the past once.
They eventually had to kill it in favor of going with the LC300 platform and apparently that is where things went south in some ways. Not because the LC300 platform is bad, but because they had other plans that suit the Tundra/Seqouia. The LC300 is an excellent platform for the vehicle its meant to be, and other vehicle smaller than it but having an oversized Land Cruiser sometimes isn't the best answer, especially if they knew they could make it better for its intended market.

I think the new Seq also actually lost some interior space compared to the outgoing version if I am not mistaken.

I think if they sold the Seq in the Middle East they could get some sales, maybe even better than current US sales but they are also afraid it might clash with LC300 sales.

I hope it does remain at its current size, but that would result in a major break away from the GX/Prado, to which it has always been closely related. That would require a much greater investment from Toyota than doing a GX rebadge with a lesser powertrain. Time will tell. I'm not optimistic that it will stay the same size as the 5th Gen.

The solid rear axle greatly reduces space in the rear compared to the previous Sequoia that had an IRS.

I caught an interview with Toyota US employees and they basically had to convince Toyota Japan to keep the Sequoia. As a result, they had a limited budget and didn't have enough investment to modify the frame and add an IRS. It is very closely related to the Tundra.

I feel 4R owners are very loyal to the 4R though, I still wouldn't be surprised if this thing ends up selling more than the GX/LC250 combined in the US market.

Agreed. The 4Runner will continue to outsell GX + LC.

2022 US sales 4Runner: 121,000
2021 US sales Land Cruiser: 3,700
2022 US sales GX 460: 30,000

I don't see any way that US Land Cruiser + GX sales will get anywhere near 120k sales.

Look familiar? This is it. Same lines as the 550. Showed us a major hint.

Yes. There is just something about the 4Runner that is hard to define, an x factor, a “je ne sais quoi” that has given it almost cult status. I was in States a few months ago and the streets are literally clogged with 4Runners. It has an odd, rounded shape and, yet, it looks great. In a way, it reminds me of the holy grail Porsche 356: odd, round and sublime. The new 4Runner is sure to be squared off and boxed up, I just hope the Tahara team does not throw the baby out with the bath water.

I don't see any way that US Land Cruiser + GX sales will get anywhere near 120k sales.

Lets not forget that 2021 LC sales numbers were unsustainable so the line was pulled from NA

So, they're going to have to do a hell of a lot better than 3700

Time will tell but if the offering follows the same formula of being a lexus lite school bus that they're going to see a fundamental change in sales pattern
