I am sure that I have picked some bad dates for runs later in the year, and that we will want to consider moving some runs to Sundays, as well.

Post up or PM me if I need to revise dates or add links and I will update the first post.

Looks good Andrew, thanks for posting this up so quickly.

During the meeting, we also talked about adding additional trips during the year (Blanca, the Gulches, etc....) for those of you who really wanted to get out and see a particular trail. Should be a fun 2014. :)

Just picked up the Charles Wells book for Northern Colorado / Front Range. Has some good info on May's Switzerland Trail run. Switzerland itself is green (but a ton of neat stuff to check out), but there is also a Blue (Pennsylvania Gulch) and a red (Gordon Gulch) right off Switzerland that we might want to check out, time permitting.

I'll bring the Wells book to the next meeting if anyone wants to check it out.

I'd be game to coordinate the Ouray/Telluride trip. I've been wanting to make it down that way again for a while now!

Awesome pics Greg!!!

I know Kyle / Doug have been discussing this trip, maybe you guys could all co-coordinate? Here's what Kyle had posted up in the "2014 Trail Planning Thread" :

I'm still planning on taking off July 18-28 to head down to the San Juan range for hiking and wheeling. I know Doug was saying a 4 day trip down (5.5 hours to Silverton area) 2 days of wheeling (Alpine loop, Ophir, Imogene as possibilities) and a day back. There is free camping down South Mineral Creek with room for tents and trailers (and a pit toilet). Lots of hiking and the best scenery in the state I think. Anybody else up for heading down there?

Whatever you guys decide, I'm excited about this trip!!!

That's got me thinking, hopefully there's no "FJ Summit", "100's in the Hills", etc. during that time?

Nice shots Greg...Governor Basin. You can't get over to the mine any more...they have started running material again and closed the last quarter mile to the mine. Love the Yankee Boy area! I'm planning on taking July 18-27 off and spending the whole time down there camping, hiking and running trails. I'm not sure when the FJ Summit is, they won't start posting about it until March...but last year it was July 17-21. They do just about everything in Ouray. I figure we'll be south near Silverton. I'm ready for this trip!

I just looked up the FJ Summit and they are having their event July 16-20. I plan on being down that way July 18-27. I figure the club would want to be down there in the San Juans the weekend of the 25-27 to avoid all the FJ people. But I'm game for hiking and wheeling any time during that period.

So who all wants to go to chinaman's? I am on the fence about it and would probably want to camp if I go. Any thoughts. A group of wranglers is going to be going on the 29th this month I might try to hitch a ride and scope it out if there is any interest in going.

The chinaman's trip will be epic. I don't think I've ever been there with this club. I admit that it will be tough for a few rigs, but the good news about chinaman's is that if you make the first 100 yards, you're in the clear. If you don't, you can catch a ride with me :) There are bigger, sharper rocks than most are used to, gonna be tough on the duratracs, lol. One of Heather's ruined goodyears came at the hands of the chinaman last year. But don't let that scare you, we'll get through.

Matt, I might be up for camping. Have to wait until it gets closer to commit. I usually camp at Browns Creek when in that area, where the club camps for the BV weekend. Are you thinking about staying at the KOA? Family? Without family?

It isn't listed as a sanctioned run, but would anybody be interested in going up Blanca? I accepted a job so I will be moving up in May. Medano is pretty close as would be Blanca, just not sure if it is a run that makes sense for ya'll since most are in the Springs area. Looking at a target date to get my stuff back together once I get settled.

I have seen some video of it and doesn't look to terrible. I think they made some of the scary places where some have died a little better. I just am not sure how the ifs on my rig would do there. It is a trail I really want to do though so if you can convince Luke to go and he says I can make it I would probably give it a try. If Travis goes with the stock 100 I am for sure gonna make it happen then.

There will be an "unofficial" Blanca run sometime in August. I spoke with Vic Ramsey on this, and he wanted to make another run up this year. I have never been on Blanca, so I can't make any assumptions about difficulty. I would not be going without someone who has been a few times. Vic has been up Blanca quite a few times, and he takes an FJ40 up there on skinny 33's. Wheeling in an FJ40 is a crazy experience, they feel pretty top heavy, so if Vic ain't scared... I'm not scared. They will also be taking a fullsize Blazer on 37's, I think its a '78 or '79-- that will be very interesting.

I hear they have taken out some rock on the deadly part of Jaws 2 and it made a big difference. I've also been told my sliders will get a healthy workout because I'm only on 33's. In getting to the top of such an iconic trail, a little damage will not hurt my feelings-- that's just part of it.

From what I read, this is absolutely NOT a trail for a novice-- or even an intermediate wheeler. When hanging right on the edge of a couple thousand foot drop off, you need to be absolutely confident in your rig, and your abilities. The penalty for doubt and a mistake is severe...

I definitely agree on going with a small group that is familiar with the trail. My wheelbase is a little longer than stock on 36's lockers etc and I am pretty sure the rig is capable to make it provided the driver gives the right input.

the desire to go comes from the wife, many years ( many many) ago my wife was going up on foot when she got passed by a truck coming down. At that point she told me I could get whatever part I wanted if I could drive her up the trail. I just want to go because it looks like a great trail with spectacular views we haven't had since we left Alaska.

if there is an unofficial list I would like to be on it pending "tech" from the trail boss of the trip. I don't want to be a liability to anyone else.

jaws one has a bypass. jaws two is easier and less dangerous than people think. and jaws 3 has a bypass. pretty much every hard part has a bypass.
here is a video of the area and some of the stuff to see.you can see on the window of the video below jaws one and to the right of the silver jeep is a flat area to go around it.

This is what I got from the fj cruiser sight. It's gonna be 2 years old this year so the trail may have changed, but I don't think it seems to terrible. If you can handle watching jeeps going up it. The guy in the orange jeep used to have an orange fj cruiser. Looks like it would be an epic run.

I got my work time off in July approved. I'll be down in the San Juans July 18-27...so its time to start planning several days down there. When do people want to meet, trails, etc. I'll likely start a separate thread for this event...but its going to happen...

Separate thread sounds great. I probably won't make it to the fj cruiser thing so I might be up for this. The wife might want to take the jeep so I would have to do only the easy trails.:D I know how you Toyota guys hate tugging us jeeps out.
