I'm definitely in for Wheeler on the 19th. Was surprised it didn't have it's own thread yet.

You planning on camping at the lake?

Edit: looks like the San Juan trip got moved up to the weekend of the 17th/18th.

I have never been to wheeler lake but I am not doing the San Juan's until the 24,25,26,27. The wife got extra days off for that and it can't be reversed. Not sure I want to do wheeler alone if no one else is going. I need to do a little more research on the trail.

We've done wheeler before and we would do it again if you want to go. Great camping at the end of the trail right by the lake if your up for it. Let me know if you want to go. You shouldn't have any issues on the trail.

Matt, wheeler isn't going to give your rig any trouble. You made it through chinamans gulch, that makes you a pretty savvy, veteran wheeler.

I would go but I have a Holy Cross trip this weekend, and may be repairing some low hanging hard parts next week :) I would invite, but we don't have a timeline yet, just playing it by ear.

Thanks Luke, that is a trail I would like to do one day so next time you go or we could get it on the trail schedule for next year. Mr. Moose I am taking the rig out this weekend sometime to little Moab to do some testing on the new cv's to see how everything is working. I had to replace the heim joints in my coil overs as well so I want to see how things are. I do want to do wheeler lake if everything is working properly. We're you thinking of going Saturday only. The wife wants to go Friday night and camp then maybe we meet you at the trail head and camp at the lake? Let me know and I could start a new thread.

Planning on heading to Wheeler on Saturday and spending the night up there at the lake.

What time would you want to meet at the trail head? Dont really want to leave super early from the springs.

jaws one has a bypass. jaws two is easier and less dangerous than people think. and jaws 3 has a bypass. pretty much every hard part has a bypass.
here is a video of the area and some of the stuff to see.you can see on the window of the video below jaws one and to the right of the silver jeep is a flat area to go around it.

This is what I got from the fj cruiser sight. It's gonna be 2 years old this year so the trail may have changed, but I don't think it seems to terrible. If you can handle watching jeeps going up it. The guy in the orange jeep used to have an orange fj cruiser. Looks like it would be an epic run.

I'm good for a Blanca trip in August, just not this weekend (Aug. 1st weekend) or Labor Day weekend. If anyone wants to do Medano Pass, go ahead and I'll just meet you at the Blanca trailhead. I'll trailer my Cruiser to the Blanca trailhead so that I can have A/C and a cushy ride on the road trip.

Jaws 1 does not have what I would really call a bypass, but the obstacle itself is not too difficult if the right line is chosen. Sliders help, especially on the longer wheelbase rigs. Blazers routinely go up Blanca. Stock rigs of any type will have an extremely long day. 33" tires minimum and lockers definitely make for a more pleasant trip. I have 33" pizza cutters and don't have any problems, but I'm also locked in both ends.

I've only done Blanca with my soft top on but I may try it this year with the hard top. When the leaning starts it takes an iron will to focus on the trail and not be distracted, but isn't that why we go?

That would be great to wheel with you Again Vic. It seems the 23rd and 24th of August works the best for everyone. I am going to try to get Brett's video of the jaws obstacles posted tonight.
