Could I get some input on these prices?

#1. 2014, magnetic gray/black, 70k miles, 1 owner, clean carfax but only 2 service records. TX truck. Priced at $44.6k.
It was a trade in at my dealer; PO traded for a 2017 TLC. Maybe they did their own maintenance? KBB dealer value is $41-44.7k

#2 2014, blizzard pearl/tan, 48k miles, 2 owners, only 5 service records. Minor to moderate rear end collision in 2016 (no airbag deployment). TX truck. priced at $48.9k
KBB dealer value is $45-49k.

#3. 2014, blizzard pearl/tan, 34k miles, 2 owner (1st owner was a 4 month lease for 4k miles), clean carfax with 12 service records at dealerships. Alabama then Arizona truck. Priced at $51.8k.
My dealer purchased it at auction. KBB dealer value is $48-52k.

I want to forget about #2 because of the collision. I have looked at #1 & 3 in person and they seem well maintained. KDSS only has very light surface rust and undercarriage looks fine on both. I feel like #3 is the best option because I like the colors, it has service records and is low miles. $52k is really stretching my budget though. That is a really low mile 2014 but I'm not sure if that would make a difference the next go around? Thanks for any advice.

Here is a list of different auction sales of 2013-2018 Land Cruiser models to give you an idea what many dealers are paying, which may help with negotiation:

Check the VINs on the Toyota owners website. You can see any dealer service records.

your dealer paid $44k plus fees and transport for the #3, second one on the list.

That was a good buy for a 2014 with 34k miles.

Looked up wholesale auction buyer's fees and I'm seeing around 6%. So that would be 46,640+transport, which still isn't too bad. There can be other fees as well. Seems like the best one in the list.

Fee caps out at like 450 or 500 for buyers.

Where is that info available?

This is from the dealer auction site. Dont believe its published anywhere.

Thanks. So they most likely paid ~$44.5k? I know they need to make a little profit, but it seems steep right now.

Yeah. Say 44.5k for the truck then 1k shipping and any work they may have done. Rating was a 4 so not perfect(5) and maybe minor mechanical or cosmetic work was done but yes they seem to be going for the high mark.

Consider a bit what dealer you're buying from (if it's in Houston). Is it a Toyota dealer or at least another reputable dealer or is it one of those NXESS type dealers that specialize in Bentleys and bad credit? Also recommend a PPI if you have any concerns about it.

@Ali FJ80 you are right about the fees. About 450-500.

It's nice to know the story on a rig.

Here's some of the generous terms on one auction site. Buyer beware.

Terms and Conditions of the Auction
  • All vehicles are sold on an "AS-IS, WHERE-IS" basis. The Commonwealth and Keystone Pennsylvania Auto Auction offer no warranties or guarantees, express or implied, including without limitation, the implied warranties of merchantability and fitness for a particular purpose.
  • There will be no refunds or adjustments if the sale or a vehicle in the sale does not meet the personal expectations of the buyer, or if the buyer does not inspect the vehicle prior to sale.
  • There will be No Arbitration and No Returns

AND NO TEST DRIVES!!

They are a reputable used car broker and dealer, but not a Toyota dealership. They try to always have some Land Cruisers in their lot.

So should someone like me avoid buying a vehicle that a dealer purchased at auction? I see the risk the dealer is taking there. But I don't see a problem with it having been an auction vehicle if it checks out for me.
