Sorry to ask but the search function yielded no specifics on this question. My driver side low beam is out on my 2013 LX. Owners manual says dealership only due to 30,000 of high voltage shock risk of death!!! REALLY? Aren't these the same as the Cruiser low beams? I see that the battery needs to come out to access the area but is there any serious danger to changing the bulb? I am pretty handy and just restored my 80 series so I would hope a light bulb on my wife's car is not the hill I die on.

Any experience? thoughts?

Thanks,

*if* it is the same as the '13 Cruiser, it is a HID bulb. I replaced mine with a Morimoto bulb with zero drama. Don't touch the bulb with oily hands, and bob's your uncle.

As long as your wife doesn’t turn the switch on and have the ballast discharge out through you toes you’ll be fine. Text is for the lowest common denominator. Doubt it would hurt much more than an old school distributor wire discharging through your body. :-)

Agreed, especially about not touching the bulb. Nitrile gloves are your friend.

Though if you go with anything other than OEM I'd put the same in both sides so things match.

The OEM part number for a 13 LX low beam is 90981-20024, same as a 13 landcruiser, so you can save some cash by buying from Toyota. About $175 list, $140 on discount sites.

Unless you are sure it's the bulb it's probably worth your time to swap sides and see if the problem moves accordingly. Could be the ballast instead of the bulb.
