Sad day

Bought this truck less than a month ago and here we are getting transmission codes. At the shop now getting it looked at.

Used my 15 year old ultra-gauge to read the codes. I plan on doing more research on recommendations for a replacement. Anyone have any suggestions? Scan gauge (2 or 3) or ultragauge with tranny temps or other?

Will update as I go through whatever this process will be.

This is where I am today. Absolutely no confidence this will fix my problem. We will soon see. Fingers crossed this works but from what I’ve read about this issue I won’t be that lucky.

If that fixes it, what you paid for the fix is worth the price of admission!
Hoping for the best for you!

Which additive did they put? I would recommend the standard Lubeguard Red first, before the platinum or any other transmission fixes in a bottle.

I don’t know. Didn’t care to ask because I had no hope that it would work. So far it’s performed well but I still feel like it’s just a matter of time.

Got a scangauge 3. I’ve been monitoring transmission temps since like a hawk. Most driving puts me in the 190-225 range on average days usually staying 195-210. Drove in some pretty hilly conditions yesterday in pine mountain ga seeing temps get to almost 240.

Ive had P2714 and P0761 and initially only showed up during winter (cooler) weather. I tried a drain and fill and added friction modifier, which seemed to help but still had codes show up. Trans would slip under hard acceleration on freeway. Added a transmission cooler and that helped with slipping on freeway during acceleration. Eventually, I lost reverse upon cold starts until it warmed up.
I ended up getting a remanufactured transmission put in (DIY in my garage). Ive still got the aftermarket transmission cooler with thermostat pinned and no issues whatsoever.
Leading theories suggest issues with clutches or O-rings within transmission that are leading to pressure losses.
To prevent this, transmission coolers with thermostat pinned help prevent transmission from overheating and frequent transmission oil (5yrs/50k miles) changes are recommended.
I'd start saving up for a remanufactured transmission. Codes mean that ecu is detecting slippage that are related to internal wear of transmission.

How difficult was the tranny swap? Any reset process with techstream? I’ve read differing viewpoints.

~9:00 mins shows the hardened seals cause most of these issues.
Regular fluid changes and keeping ATF temps down (aux cooler + pinned open trans tstat) will basically eliminate that issue.

Im moderately handy with my own mechanical work. I have a lot of tools. Having the right tools is a must.

I'd rate it 8/10 as far as difficulty (at least using my own mechanical experience as a scale)

Biggest issues i had was getting the transfer case to line up correctly and the three 10mm bracket bolts at the top front of the transmission, hardly any room to get hands up there and no visibility. Transmission can only tilt like 10 degrees before hitting firewall. Passenger exhaust manifold has to come out to get starter out. Took me ~25 hours of actual work to do the whole transmission replacement, over a 3-day period. This is after having the knowledge/experience to do the replacement on a GX460 specifically.

Yes, I did the techstream AT memory reset. I would say its required but you can also drive without doing it. It probably won't shift as efficiently. Getting techstream to work on a virtual machine within my PC was an issue in of itself. Only certain OBDs have the correct communication protocols and wiring. VCX Nano worked for me. It beats the mongoose scanner thats $600.

Cooler ATF and an external filter ie not relying on the felt strainer are the best things you can do for your trans. It improves a plethora of potential issues.
