Hello All!

New to the site, and first post! I recently purchased a 2009 LC and have loved everything about it. One thing that I have noticed is that during the past 2-3 times i have driven it, when turning the wheel, i am getting a bit of a "whine" or steady "squeak" when turning the wheel. To me, it seems like it is coming from the steering wheel column, but i am not sure if that is just where i can hear it, and that it may be coming from somewhere else. I am thinking that it either needs a bit of lubrication at the steering wheel, or perhaps some power steering fluid, but i am not sure. I have not done any investigating yet, but i would like the opinion of someone who has perhaps seen/dealt with this in the past.

Thanks in advance for the help!

I too have this noise. Dealer never mentioned it, no mention of it in the detailed service history for my vehicle. I am the second owner and this noise has been present since my purchase a few months ago at 110k mikes (now 117k). 2010 LX570. Curious what others are experiencing.

Try lubing the place where the steering column passes thru the firewall. I'm not sure if there's a bushing there or a bearing. But I bet that is the source of the noise. It was for my 100 series.

Air in the system can cause this. Had this issue on my 4runner. Bled the system and the whine went away.

Also, noticed with my 4runner if you have a squeak instead of a whine, it may be the rubber boot near the fire wall. An occasional squirt with silicone fixes it.

I have this whine too in my 09lx. Just started in the last couple months when we had a long cold spell. Cant get rid of it

Wondering if anyone has a permanent fix? My 2013 just started a low pitch squeak/groan when turning the wheel when parked or at low speed (<10 mph). I'm going to try to squirt some silicone grease on the firewall bushing when I can find my can of it (we just moved so we're still unpacking) as it sounds like that's where it's coming from. But if this requires regular greasing I'm inclined to just replace whatever bushing is wearing.

I have it too, only when I turn the wheel real fast though.

FYI under the drivers side dash I slid the boot up a bit from the firewall and sprayed a copious amount of silicon spray lube around where the steering column meets the firewall. Noise is gone for now. The boot has a metal clip but it’s not very tight

I suspect the boot is used to keep dirt off the shaft And/or keep whatever factory grease is applied to that bushing where it passes through the firewall, and what’s happening is the grease is drying out or getting a bit dirty.

Same noise popped up on my Cruiser after an alignment was done. I know that the wheel anchor they use puts some stress on the column and I attributed the squeak to that and since it has not really changed the way it operates mechanically, I have left it alone. After seeing this thread, a lubricant application in/near the boot and a complete steering linkage inspection is going to happen this weekend. Thanks 'MUD

Same problem with my 2013. I have sprayed the boot with little success. Will try again and looking forward to hearing others progress.

Video is of a Camry but it's the same general location -

In the above video someone has removed the boot. In my case I just pushed it up from the bottom an inch or two and sprayed around the base and it stopped. If (when) it comes back if it's not 15 degrees out I'll actually take the boot off and examine closer. I suspect whatever grease was in there just breaks down over time.

Happened to me this morning in the office parking garage. Took a short video to document.

Is this what you all are hearing?

Mine is more of a groan rather than a squeak, and it's definitely more pronounced in cold/winter weather
